Traffic light timings at the Plough junction are causing long tail backs down Lordship - yesterday was awful - it increases both noise and air pollution for residents on Lordship Lane (of which I am one), as well as making it unpleasent for anyone walking by. I have emailed TFL, but the phone line I can find is for emergencies only - does anyone have any thoughts?

Magpie, only to say that I have noticed this too over the last couple of weeks - it seems as if the lights going from Lordship Lane towards Forest Hill have been rephased so that there are two different phases of green light - a "normal" phase on green which lets about 5-6 cars through, and then the next phase on green is very short (only 2 cars can get through). All of the phases coming the other ways (both from Forest Hill towards Lordship Lane and going from Barry Road to Dulwich Village and vice versa) seem to be operating the way they always did.

Maybe try contacting James Barber - he has recently posted about the phasing of traffic lights in ED.

We live on Lordship Lane, near The Plough and have endured this for the last few weeks. It's really unpleasant. Yesterday we 'phoned Southwark Council; the guy answering was helpful and took down an account of the problem. We got the feeling that it is a TFL thing; odd because it will be affecting their buses. Anyway, he did request the Council get back to us on this, once and if action was taken. We'll see what happens.
I have also contacted James Barber on this - and spoke to Southwark Council, who said it was TFL, and then TFL said its Southwark! I believe James reported it on Friday, but it was still a problem yesterday, and this morning. I watched the lights for about 5 minutes yesterday - it goes green for a literally a matter of seconds to let a couple of cars through, then for every few cycles it will stay green longer and clear some of the backlog.

    • I’ve tried to find details of surgeries being held before but not found any. The section of the Southwark website that details councillors’ surgeries says that: Your locally elected Councillors will be holding a roving surgery programme in the Dulwich Hill area to enable residents to raise any local issues. Residents will be notified by letter in advance of the date, time and specific streets/roads where the surgery will take place.  Surgeries are not held in August, on Bank Holidays, Easter or in Christmas Week.  Dulwich Hill Ward Councillors I’ve never seen any notification of surgeries being held, including on the DH councillors’ social media accounts. I don’t know if any other residents of Dulwich Hill have? Neighbouring wards all seem to have times and places posted for surgeries.
    • I wouldn't feel too bad about that. It's one of the few degree areas that you can do a BA or a BSc in, so it's a fairly wide-ranging and complex subject. Certainly Truss, Kwasi and Reeves seem to struggle with it.
    • I can't access the article - what's the gist?  I took the markets getting jittery when she was crying at PMQs to be a sign that they trusted her. But maybe it was because they were simply worried about any form of instability.  The NIC hikes have stymied the economy, which we could all see a mile off. Will a wealth tax improve things? Does anyone here think the trickle down has any impact and that chasing out the super rich will help things? Or are we just seeing off the biggest contributors to the economy? And has the Kwasi approach ever worked anywhere else?  Economics is not my strong point at all, I'd love to know others' opinions, but it seems to be she has few options, especially as the party is so divided.
    • does either of them have a surgery? probably not over summer, but I thought they had to give the opportunity for their constituents to meet them.
