Hello all,

I have had an increasing worry about the chruch-like-building at the top of Barry Road, before the traffic lights. Sorry Im unsure what this place is, maybe a hostel?

I am an 18 year old girl and everytime I walk past this place to go to the bus stop for work, I am pestered by the men standing outside. I have been trying my best to ignore their comments and keep my head down, however last nigth I was coming home from a friends house (around 11pm) and one man stopped me in the street and said he'd seen me earlier in the day walking my dog (which is true) but of course I hadnt noticed him.

He asked me my name and I know I should have made one up but I just wanted to get home and I told him my real name. As I walked away he started shouting my name and saying 'I'll see you again!'

Now I am constantly worried about walking past this place incase this man shouts my name. I know I could get a 197 or a 12 to the top of the road but if Im in a hurry for work I dont want to be waiting around for a bus to go one stop.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else had been bothered by these people or if anyone has any ideas of what I can do?

Thanks.

    • I totally agree it just seems that it a thing nowadays.  It must be due to how fireworks are sold.
    • Well worth a read   https://manchestermill.co.uk/the-men-who-raised-the-flags/
    • If it was limited to a couple of days a year, so we all knew, that would be fine. In the last few years (and it is a recent thing) you get random fireworks going off any time after dusk for half the year. It does more than cause problems for pets and wildlife- it can mean lasting damage and massive expense and hassle for pet owners. All because some get a buzz out of loud bangs.
    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
