hazelnunhead
Does any one know of which calculator the schools use when measuring distance between home and school postcode. Or could anyone recommend a good online calculator.Busy going through the secondary school process and trying to work out which schools we might have a chance to get into. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/167596-distance-calculator-for-measuring-home-to-schoool/ Share on other sites
DulwichLondoner
Google maps can give an indication (it lets you calculate straight-line distance) but it's just an indication. The website and admission policy of each school should detail what system is used - typically the council's. Many councils will tell you the distance between an address and a school if you ask. Not sure about Southwark. Do post back on what you find. devsdev
Lewisham admissions will definitely email you the closest 10 schools to your address with the official distance set out. IAM
You can use freemaptools.com - choose radius around a point. That should give a good idea of 'how crow flies' distance from each school. Good luck Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/167596-distance-calculator-for-measuring-home-to-schoool/#findComment-1177001 Share on other sites
hazelnunhead
Thanks for that. If and when I find a good online calculator I will post it here.Devsdev that is good to know about lewisham, it would be good to see the way they calculate distance compared to some online tools. Mrs TP
Beware Kingsdale is not on distance. Other schools do not do straightforward distance base but will split applicants into differing academic bands (based on their own tests or year 5 reports from your primary school) and will then offer a greater proportion of places to the academic bands with the most applicants - it could be that someone gets a place who lives further away than you but because they are in a different academic band. Good luck with it all.
