All who suggested the BP would be the main area of concern were CORRECT. I spoke to my MW this morning, and threw a spanner in the works when she suggested moseying on down to Kings the SECOND my waters broke/the moment I got my first contraction. I kindly pointed out to her that if this all hapenned when my husband was at work, it would be at least two hours from me thinking 'owh, what's occurin'?' to being able to go to Kings anyway (husband would have to come home, MIL would have to come and collect Cheeky S etc...). She was a bit stumped. So it turns out my toddler is actually my most useful tool in NOT spending my entire labour at hospital, whoda thunk it?


She suggested, very helpfully, hypnobirthing. Now, I've never given it a thought before, but I gather it's sort of like meditating, which you do before the Main Event for practise and then during the Main Event? Books and CDs have been ordered and hopefully it'll help me get into a calmer place. She also said 'we can recommend monitoring/venflows, but you don't have to do it at all.'. I think I'll be okay putting my foot down, but my husband is convinced I'll die in childbirth and I can see a few muttered obscentities going on there.

Ruth I'd heartily recommend the hypnobirthing for relaxation, I think you have to be in the right frame of mind for it but I found it really good for dealing with pain and anxiety at least up to the point where it was clear things were going wrong, I hope it works for you, good luck.

Oh and just been visiting a friend who recently had a VBAC and was really positive about it and about how much better the care and attention was this time round.

    • It was normal cyclists, in rush hour traffic, in the dark, in the rain. Just really want people to realise it’s that time of year even more careful and to get kitted out.
    • The other consideration is that users of Lime bikes and similar, plus younger pedal cyclists, probably don't view themselves as 'cyclists' as such and so don't get kitted out or even consider that they need to. I also agree that earlier nights are another factor for the casual or hire bike user more used to cycling in the summer. I don't think I have ever seen a hire bike or scooter user wearing a helmet or reflective gear- presumably that is because the bike is just viewed as a transport tool for short term use and users do not want to be encumbered by any of the safety gear? Before anyone jumps on me for anecdotal evidence and speculation, this is just what I have seen round here, there may be hordes of similar users elsewhere that are kitted out.
    • Well apolitical if that is an OK word for you.  Sorry if my choice of words was incorrect.  But on my original point if it wasn't for the Telegraph dragging this up, and yes they do have an agenda, an no they are not apolitical/impartial whatever, we;d be none the wiser. But as it made no difference to Trump's election campaign that why would he have a case in the American courts? Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of the programme
