hi guys and girls, most of you have probably seen me posting on for hair dressing services etc..

Im 25 and have been in east dulwich for around 5 months now but really struggling to meet people.

I work north of the river and dont particularly want to mix work and social lifes anyway.

ive seen lots of fashionable cool looking young people around east dulwich and peckham mainly around the victoria inn but am just so petrified of going it alone to meet people....

looking to meet local 20 - 28 yr olds still up for it and going out and about locally

so any friendly locals looking to expand there friendship circles drop me a line!

Untamedstylist - I"m sure there's a group that advertises on here for meet ups, called london socialising or something? No idea what age group they are though. Or perhaps if you like sports there are groups around to cater for that? Can be a good way in to meet new people in your area? Or film? Or whatever it is you like doing in your free time.

I think sometimes that its quite difficult to meet people when you move to a new area and your colleagues and friends are on other sides of the river etc. Sometimes its strange to think that living in one of the most major cities, with busy people all around us, it can be hard to make new friends and it can be a lonely place at times.

Good luck and hope you find some like-minded people that are roughly your age group! :)

THAT

I'm open to befriending all ages and sex's just wanting to go out and about to meet others... It's so incredibly hard almost to the point of severely depressing... Driving past all the bars seemingly heaving with people and scared to approach on Ur own... Ir was different in Australia people say hello to u when u simpley pass them in the street it's so easy to make friends there... Seems london is very hard and can be very unwelcoming and people seem to be in groups of people they've probably grown up with it's horrible starting over in mid 20's or older... It's easy if in education or bar / nightclub work I'm sure but already do about 60 hrs a week in a hair salon, last thing I want it is a bar job and it also consumes Ur life.. Been there done that.... Thanks for the encouragement peeps....

Sorry for the teasing - that's life on the forum, and most us are in abject fear of getting past it, hence reaction to age ranges. oh maybe thats just me.

London is quite hard, it took me a good 10 years to really settle into life here. I used to potter around on weekends and felt like life was going on around me, without me and London can make you feel like that - but it isnt you it is just the veneer of this city. It seems you can either move here with a group, make friends through work or make friends through a shared interest. I have made friends through work but the trouble with that is people are in different locations and then there is the private overstepping professional dilemma. So after 10 years of dithering round the outskirts, I joined a local sports group, lets just say previous to this I was not sporty, but I now know friends locally and it does make a difference. There are a few non sport groups on this forum, book groups, monthly drinks and people who get together. Also I know there are some Aussie expat forums - though I dont know whether they meet locally. Have a look in the whats on section too. Sorry dithering post, with nothing concrete to suggest, maybe come along to the barry road race, the ladies football team will look after you!

Ah, & urm...

Well, it's probably true to a degree, though i've now got a range of all ages in my life. But it's taken me 25 years or so to do it.

U.T S. Just keep an open heart and a positive mind set , I'm sure it will come right.

It is hard but not impossible.

Nette:)

Thanks for responses guys... I already checked out city socialising site but seems a great lack of southern londoners that actually respond and sadly due to my work schedule it doesn't leave me much time to attend group acctivutys as much as I'd love to which I was hoping to befriend some locals I could just pop down and chillaxing with on route back from work etc...

I was half expecting abuse and mickey taking but thought what the hell it's worth a try, nothing ventured nothing gained but actually seeing some nice responses... Very unexpected and thanks..

    • There's probably a bigger discussion on why we celebrate Christmas (pagan/religious festival) and why everything has to shut down.  I've enjoyed Xmas days in Spain, Mexico and France where some businesses and restaurants are open, and in a number of non-Christrian countries.  In both sets of occasions it has been festive, but not over the top and the Spanish seem to have a more relaxed attitude in a country where the church is probably more important than the UK.  A Lounge conversation.  I'll no doubt be popping into the Forest Hill Road supermarket on Xmas day for things we have forgotten, with many others in a similar situation who grew up in the Christian faith (I've long since been an atheist).
    • Would anyone have ends of balls of wool, any colour, to mend an old blanket? Any colour? With thanks Mila
    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
