Period windows refurbishment - recommendations please!

Help! We want to refurbish a single pair of Edwardian french doors. Looking to make them more sound-proof and draft-proof. I'm told the wood is in good enough nick that a double glazed unit (perhaps with an acoustic layer on the outside)could be puttied into the existing frame and seals put in to exclude the draft. Recommendations very welcome, especially if based on personal experience. A lot of local companies seem to replace period windows with lookalike double/triple glazed sashes, finding someone to upgrade what you have seems to be much harder!

I suspect that your doors will always be compromised acoustically by the fact that they probably don't make a perfect seal when closed. Without a nearly airtight seal, any improvement from adding double glazing will only ever be marginal unfortunately. Sorry to sound so pessimistic, but my hunch is you wouldn't get the sound insulation improvement you are hoping for..

    • Thanks ianr. So no mention of either Tesco  or October? So we are no further forward with knowing when the Tesco will actually open? The place seems to have been empty for ages. I would have thought Tesco might have wanted to be up and running in time for Christmas, but maybe that isn't relevant to a relatively small Tesco Express? ETA: The wonders of the space bar, eh? It took me more  time than it should have done to see the difference between the two addresses in your previous post!
