About ? hour ago, a truck sporting the words ?City Scrap Metal? pulled up our road. A guy walked out and calmly attempted to load a brand-new bike belonging to one of the kids playing outside onto his truck. Fortunately, my neighbour spotted him and run across demanding to know what on earth he was up to. The kids were engaged in a water fight ? a second later that bike would have vanished and we would never have known how. What a great cover: the guy claimed that he was just doing his job. When we asked him how a brand-new bike could possibly qualify as ?scrap metal?, his accent became very foreign and he was having trouble understanding us. I wish I had been cleverer (or less shocked) and noted down his car registration number. Be warned ? he may be down your road as we speak ?doing his job?.
