Hi Again

Have come across this company in my searching for first aid and wondered if anyone would be interested in taking part? It looks like you can either get 6-8 people together and hold it in someone's home and split the cost (sadly mine isn't big enough!) or you can build a class to suit. They are NHS nurses who come to give you classes in basic first aid and accidents etc. It is quite pricey but for some reason I have become a bit obsessed with the fact that i would never know what to do if my girl was choking or burnt herself etc, too scary!

Will keep searching as well, there might be a cheaper option run from Kings.

and provides a free creche for your child whilst you participate. I tried to put my name down but all places already taken, a new one is running from mid Sept and they suggest calling start of September to put your name down (limited places).

My son attends the children's centre here and its excellent so can recommend...hopefully we'll manage to get a place on the next session...

If you can't get onto something more local, I would recommend the St John's Ambulance courses run from their HQ in Marylebone. I did one when I was pregnant. It was a Sat morning from 9-12 and about ?35. Covered basic life support, burns, choking and common childhood illnesses. Lots of the people there had already had their babies and were taking turns attending while their other half babysat. They give you a good pack to take away with all the key stuff summarised. The teacher was excellent, really knew her stuff and it was very practical/hands on.

I'm a trainer with The Parent Company so know how much is covered (and practised within the class). Know there are cheaper classes available but unsure how much hands on practice they offer when it comes to basic life support & choking. Know the classes are expensive (might be worth checking if they still do an NCT discount) but always get very positive evaluations.

There's lots of info on the website/more of an idea of the curriculum of the 2 classes offered.

    • I never said that. Saying I don’t like some of the rhetoric coming from the left doesn’t mean I approve of Farage et al saying that Afghans being brought here to protect their lives and thank them for their service means there is an incalculable threat to women.    Anything to score a cheap point. It’s pretty pathetic.
    • To be fair we are as hosed as the majority of other countries post-Covid. The problem is Labour promised way too much and leant in on the we need change and we will deliver it and it was clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that no change was going to happen quickly and actually taking the reigns may have been a massive poison- chalice. As Labour are finding to their cost - there are no easy answers.  A wealth tax seems straightforward but look how Labour have U-turned on elements of non-dom - why? Because the super rich started leaving the country in their droves and whilst we all may want them to pay more tax they already pay a big chunk already and the government saw there was a problem.
    • You don’t think there are right-wing politicians fanning this with rhetoric? Really?
    • No party is willing to tackle the "elephant in the room" which is the national debt. It is costing the country circa £100 Billion ANNUALLY to service that debt. That is more than the defence and education budgets. That debt burden has to be reduced which in reality means cost cuts. That means cutting back state pensions, index-linked pensions for civil servants and others such as police, NHS etc. It means cutting back on universal credit and cutting the number of people who are claiming benefits.
