Hello ED mums,

I need some advice with regards childcare for my 2.5 year old son. He goes to the nursery 3 days a week, we only managed to get 3 days at the nursery. I'm wondering what is the best childcare option on the other two days. Nanny share or baby sitter or child minder or sending him to another nursery for the 2 days.

I'm a little apprehensive abt sending him to another nursery for 2 full days because I feel that might unsettle him.

Can you please let me know what has worked for you all and any suggestions or contacts?

I must add my son is very active and enthusiastic boy, so I would want an arrangement by which he gets a variety of stimulation like parks, books, songs, etc..

Many thanks,

Sue

I would also be apprehensive about adding another nursery. In the same situation a few year back, we added a part time nanny, as I wanted Little Saff to have more one-on-one time with a single carer.

I opted for a nanny because I wanted someone who would come to my house, which saved me a little time in the morning/evening. A nanny share or childminder would be cheaper, but then you might still have to drop-off and collect, depending on your arrangement.

This worked out well for us, and the nanny took Little Saff to playgroups and museums. And she did crafts and projects around the house too. xx

Our nanny was a mature student, who has now graduated and moved on to work in her field of study. We originally found her through friends-of-friends.

In addition to the Family Classifieds here on the Forum, there are some fairly active local Facebook forums. Have a look at neighbouring SE4 Families and Forest Hill Mums.

Good luck! xx

I would do a nanny personally, a nanny share might work well to keep the costs down? I think two nurseries could be confusing (and quite full on!). We found our great 2 day a week nanny on the classifieds section here. Facebook groups like SE22 Mums are also good places to advertise.

    • Sue, One of the hairdressers who called me had spent a fair amount of time getting all his clients’ details from the database before he gave his notice and left.  He wouldn’t have been able to do it afterwards.
    • That hasn't been my experience, but admittedly it was a long time ago. For example, I had an excellent cutter at one of the central London Charles Worthington salons, I think it was in Covent Garden. I would be highly surprised if anyone who worked there was allowed to keep their own book of clients' details, because the salon itself  obviously wants to keep their clients. I can't remember the exact details, but if memory serves she left, and when I asked where she had gone  I was told she had "gone travelling", which may or may not have been true (I am not someone who keeps up a constant conversation with whoever is cutting my hair, which may be a surprise to those who know me 😂). The next person I had there made an absolute dog's breakfast of my cut, to such an extent that I had to have several (free) cuts from somebody else at that salon to bring it back to some semblance of what it was supposed to look like.
