Documents needed to register birth?

My son was born last Tuesday and I've made an appointment to register his birth but don't appear to have any documentation in my discharge pack.

Does anyone know what I need and where I get it from?

I'm sure when my daughter was born there was something in the discharge pack from hospital, just can't remember what!!

You just need the NHS Number which should be on the discharge letter. In fact last time I did it they did not even ask for that. If you are the male partner, registering alone then you'll need ID and marriage cert also.
