Inspired by Sue's request ,here's one of my own .

I don't expect to achieve anything like a professional finish but just wondered if anyone had attempted dealing with this themselves using T cut or similar and had any advice ?

It is of course silver metallic and I would say that some of the scratches are quite deep .

Mobile units can come to your home to tidy up paintwork quite cheaply I have heard.

I think they give you a free quote - so nothing to lose

If you aren't worried about its appearance, can't you just shove some anti rust stuff. (technical term) on the scratched bits?

If the colour layer is damaged you will (a) not be able to polish out the scratch (b) risk this becoming a rust spot

You can rub it down and respray the area with an aerosol - the match will be dreadful

You can respray the whole panel - hard work

You can touch it up with a brush - most dealers will sell a thin pot with a brush - it will still show

You can paint over with Hammerite - it will slow down the rust but not hide the scratch

You used to be able to get scratch kits that included some pigment to help mask the scratch

Not in this recommendation though: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/86280/best-scratch-removers-2017

Thanks malumbu ,those reviews are helpful .

Sue ,I guess it's a shade before old banger status ,though others may feel there are no shades there . I guess I don't want to make it look worse and want to try and ward of rust .

Sadly some fugger put paint stripper on my then newish car. I went on line and bought a special kit of base coat, colour and lacquer.

I've messed with cars for years, had summer jobs both in a company doing up light commercials and a paint manufacturer. Modern vehicles are just so much more difficult to touch up.

The job on my vehicle wasn't bad, and the damage on the roof panel so is not so obvious. But it still shows.

On the good side they don't rot like they used to.

I booked the local chipsaway guy a while ago. He didn't show up.

So took it into JS Coachworks in Forest Hill for a quote. They couldn't be bothered to get back to me with a quote, even after chasing. I guess the job's too small for them (5 or 6 scratches of various size/depth) but I won't be returning.

Any other suggestions appreciated (too deep for T-Cut)

    • I highly recommend Temi as a very skilled and reliable painter / decorator based in the East Dulwich & SE London area. She has completed many jobs for us over the past 10 years at our property on Overhill Road SE22 and also on Harlescott Road SE15, and we have always been thoroughly impressed with her work. We often leave her with keys and leave her to work her magic, fully confident that she's 100% trustworthy and will always do a fantastic job. If you're looking for a trustworthy local decorator who delivers exceptional work Temi is a great person to call. I'm not affiliated with her or her business in any way and actually found her through a recommendation on the ED forum over 10 years ago, i just like to recommend really good tradespeople who deserve a thank you.
