We are heading off to sunny climes with Baby Knomester in a couple of weeks and so I'm starting to plan what we need to take with us. We've had lots of helpful advice about suncream and mosquito repellant here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,620129,620136 but now I'm wondering what 'first aid' things we should pack (calpol, teething powders, thermometer, etc...). Baby Knomester is just over 8 months old.

Does anyone have a good list or care to let me know what we shouldn't be travelling without?

Thank you!

I would suggest taking the golden trilogy of syrups - paracetamol, ibuprofen and chlorophenamine (piriton) as well as syringes rather than spoons. Eurax cream incase of any rash/itchy insect bites.

At 8 months, mini-knomester is unlikely to cut/burn/sprain anything, however, to cover yourselves it might be worth adding steristrips, plasters, gauze, crepe bandage & micropore tape as well as a tea-tree burns dressing (a big one can always be trimmed down).

Don't forget any regular medications anyone in the family has (especially things like inhalers) and ensure there's enough of them to cover the first week back as well (save yourself queuing for an emergency GP appt the day you return!).

Finally, don't forget suncream for baby or yourselves!

Am sure there's more that could be added...

I'd suggest bringing some Diralite (prob spelt that wrong!) good to have for babies of adults in case of upset belly, blackcurrent flavour seems to be most popular with my kids! Also if it's somewhere very warm, one of those small handy fan's can be helpfull - When my eldest was a baby we were coming back from st lucia and in the airport it was like an oven and he was very hot and grumpy until a lady let us borrow her little fan!
....dioralyte! Knew there was something I'd forgotten!! Trick I use in A&E is to add a dash of ribena/blackcurrent squash to help "enhance" the blackcurrent-ness. Be careful that it is only a dash otherwise the osmolarity is affected and it won't re-hydrate as effectively.
Thank you all. I've managed to pick up most things, but the pharmacist said piriton is on available for 12 months us over the counter and that we need a prescription for under 12 months. Have other people asked for a prescription before holidays in case it is needed or not used until 12 months?
Ahhh... forgot age of mini knomester - really, piriton only used for allergic reaction in under 1's and in that case should be seen by Dr/A&E first - once over 1yr ok to use as bottle says (is only medicine which even in A&E we obey the instructions on the bottle!!).

    • Is anyone else having difficulty booking Silver Swim sessions (Tuesday and Thursday between 3pm-4pm?) Almost all the spaces are taken before the online booking system opens at 10pm several days before. Last night there appeared to be one space available for next Tuesday. I tried to book at one second past 10pm but was unsuccessful. This seems to have been a recent phenomenon. I made a telephone call this morning but just received a recorded message saying that the voicemail box was full. Am I right in assuming that in person bookings are now taking precedence over online ones?
    • I completely agree with you, Angelina. But it's worth noting that no one else has a problem with her, or finds her rude /  has mentioned her aggressively banging gates / ringing doorbells etc.
    • But I don't think that was what you meant, was it? But he can hardly be held responsible for what somebody else did! Just discovered I forgot to post the above  last night, and now it's overtaken by long posts.  I don't have sufficient knowledge  to counter some of what has been said above, some of which appears to be opinion rather than facts, so it would be pointless for me to say anything else.
