maxxi
Surely photo is an abbreviation and as such would better be written as "photo." and not "photo" or "photo'" and don't apostrophes denoting missing letters in a word only occur within that word? Sue
Never mind the apostrophes, it's the florists in ED who don't seem to be able to spell the names of any of the flowers/plants they sell who get me.Never sure whether to laugh or wince. And then there was the one who had a notice on a load of wallflowers saying "Primroses", and when I pointed out they were in fact wallflowers said "Well it says Primrose on the label", so I had a look and that was, erm, the colour of them - as in, scarlet, primrose, orange .......And then they said, well I don't suppose anybody who has bought a plant will notice :)):)):)):)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17244-apostrophe-police/page/2/#findComment-435925 Share on other sites
new mother
Apostrophes are just the thin edge.... I am so pedantic that I took the decision a few years ago to accept the appalling grammar everywhere, inc. the dead tree media, in the hope of reducing stress and extending my lifespan...
