Our Christmas present to each other was to buy a Sonos music system. It has been brilliant for four months until today when it has suddenly refused to link to my iTunes library on my Mac.

I've reset everything in the house, checked that all software is up to date but no joy. Have checked FAQs on the relevant website but remain baffled.

Can anyone advise / help - usual EDF tokens (bottle of wine) applies.

Thanks in desparation.

Is the only issue that the Sonos cannot see the Mac iTunes library? So it will still play internet radio/access online services?

How is the Mac connected to your network (Airport Express or router)? I don't use a Mac, but one thing to check (particularly if you've applied the new iTunes software update recently) is that the name or location of your library file hasn't changed and/or the Sonos is still pointing at the right folder/file.

Also, is your iTunes library still set up for sharing - if you've applied updates this might have been reset. Depending on which model you're using, the option may be in System Preferences/Sharing/Firewall, check iTunes Music Sharing.

There was a software update a couple of weeks ago from sonos which has caused some problems but I think that's mainly napster related.

As siduhe said it's usually firewall or other security settings, if you go into the sonos setup and remove iTunes from your library management restart then add iTunes again it should spot any security problems and give advice on what to change

    • It is most likely gas, with what looks like a stop cock, and although the pipe may well have been isolated later from the supply you should get in a gas safe engineer to remove it. At worst it might need to be capped off beneath the floor boards. Don't interfere with it yourself.
    • Sorry, I know this isn't strictly an East Dulwich topic but as there are so many late-Victorian properties in the area I wondered if anyone has seen anything similar in their house and can advise. We have what looks like an old gas outlet on the back wall of our daughter's bedroom which we'd like to remove, but we weren't sure whether it's safe to do so. Do I just call a registered gas engineer to check it out? And is it definitely a gas outlet or might it be something else? It's at floor level so maybe electricity but it doesn't look like any electricity outlet I've ever seen! Has anyone had any experience of dealing with something similar?
