Peckham Police Station to close

As part of the Met's cutbacks, they're closing Peckham Police Station, leaving Walworth as the only police station in the borough for people to report crime in person.

I think it is the mayor of London, but do people still attend police stations?

Those being arrested do. Those reporting for bail and probation services do. Those giving witness statements do. On the two occasions I have had to go to Peckham Police station, there has always been a long queue.

The Met's budget is set by the Home Office and has been cut year on year ever since the Tories took office in 2010. Sadiq Khan has consistently protested against the government cuts and has provided ?27M from the mayoral budget this year to try to mitigate the worst effects.

The independent calls it a disputed figure

Fair enough, please insert "in real terms" after the second "year"! I think everyone understands that with inflation no rise is a de facto cut, don't they? Or should the Met stop complaining because they're getting more than they had in 1970?

Doesn't matter what the cops do because the CPS are probably under strict instructions NOT to get people prosecuted so they let them out on bail and they disappear....
