Does anybody know anything more about the proposed reuse of the Common grave area?

We back onto this I think (Ryedale / Forest Hill) and the proposed addition of more soil to this area seems a bit drastic seeing as our ground floor is already about 6 ft under the level of the graveyard (between us and the graveyard is a small hill - seemingly to level the road.) If they need to add soil to allow more burials then I am presuming this is going to be quite a bit to allow new burials

I understand the need for the reuse of the site and would prefer this to removing the communal playground in Honor Oak but I am concerned about the affects this will cause.

Any Ideas / inside info?

There is a Friends group in the process of being set up for Camberwell Old Cemetery - all welcome to get involved (and it will need as wide a group as possible to try and fund it).

Part of the reason for forming a Friends group is because of Southwark's burial issues and the plans to expand/increase the burial parts of existing sites such as Camberwell Old Cemetery. The next planned meeting is in early June. I'm planning to go and will ask about any more recent info on this.

The third meeting of the Friends of Camberwell Old Cemetery is to be held on 11th June at 9.30am at Camberwell New Cemetery Chapel, Brenchley Gardens.

We have only just begun the process of forming this group - all are welcome

If you are using a shop which doesn't give an itemised receipt, or doesn't give a receipt at all, just be aware that it might be a good idea to check that you are not paying over the odds (and if using cash, that you are given the right change for what you handed over). When staff are busy they might make mistakes.
    • As I had a moan on here about the truly abysmal Christmas meal we had at The Cherry Tree last year, I am redressing the balance by saying we had a really excellent Christmas meal at Franklins last night. Every course was absolutely delicious and  really well cooked. The staff were lovely despite being exhausted and run off their feet. In particular, my sea bass was a large portion and cooked to perfection, in stark contrast to the small dried up portion The Cherry Tree provided, from which I was barely able to scrape a teaspoonful of flesh (that is not an exaggeration). And our Franklins meal cost less than half what we paid at The Cherry Tree (to be fair, that was on Christmas Day so the Cherry Tree costs would have been higher, but that doesn't excuse the appalling quality meal). Thank you again to Franklins for restoring our faith in eating out at Christmas!
