ClareC
I have asked my Dr, who sat on the fence and said it's up to my insurance company. Upon calling them they say when I am medically able...... Bit of a catch 22!!Section was 2 weeks ago, all healing nicely, no pain, no pain killers and could physically easily drive and do an emergency stop if necessary. Last time I waited until the 6 week check and the Dr still sat on the fence and wouldn't say either way, although did confirm scar had healed nicely! Don't want to wait unnecessarily but also don't want to end up in a situation where the insurance company can claim I wasn't medically fit........ Anyone else had this issue? Is there an answer? Ruth_Baldock
I don't drive, but my MWs said 4-6wks, some insurance companies say 4wks if you have power steering and abs. Whatever that is ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17321-driving-after-a-c-section-how-soon/#findComment-436815 Share on other sites
ClareC
Thanks Ruth :-)4 weeks sounds a reasonable time, as able as I feel at the moment I think 2 weeks is very soon....I've no need to drive living round here but going anywhere further afield rather difficult with 2 so small and the rather heavy P&T's! pebbles
I think insurance companies say as soon as you are able to do an emergency stop - when friends have then asked how are we meant to know that the ins companies just ummed and urred so i think it's just a question of when you feel ready and able. snowboarder
I rang my insurance company - they weren't bothered. Spoke to midwives - they said up to you but advise 6 weeks. I basically thought I had to get out of the house once husband had gone back to work, and it was more effort to walk and push the p&t...so I drove at just over 2 weeks. Only locally, not far. Mind you hefting toddler into car and baby in car seat was probably the worst bit... mima08
I phoned my insurance who said unless the Dr specifically says not to, it's fine (immediately after if I wanted - I did not...) ClareC
Thanks everyone, glad it's not just me that thinks waiting for the 6 week checks excessive! Grotty
i had a c-section last year and was told by my insurance company that legally i wasn't covered until 6 weeks - same for any major op. Was a bit annoying as i felt completely up for driving way earlier, but seemed like i had no choice...
