Just seen 6-7 people moving stuff in, music equipment, suitcases and, oddly, a washing machine. They refused to tell me what they were doing. The company who put up the shutters (VPS) do not know anything about it. I also called police non-emergency line on 101 to inform them, since the guys who were moving in were being decidedly shifty about it.

I'm hoping it's just someone sorting out the pub for re-opening, but not convinced.

Shutters do not stop people getting in. Shutters are there to prevent windows being broken.

There has to be a way back in . Front / Back door.

People always going on about Business premises being left unoccupied when there are so many people

on the street, homeless. Its been very cold and wet as of late and perhaps someone was desperate.

Whether its right or wrong to Squat ..

Looks like a case of Nimbyism in this case.

I have been to enough squats to know that a washing machine is atypical :) Which is kind of why I'm hoping that they are in fact just keeping an eye on it until it gets reopened, a bit like those property guardian types. Not holding out a great deal of hope though.

So the squatters will be evicted?

Who are the present owners? Is there any more news about the future of the pub?

Let the guy be righteously indignant for 5 mins at least, this IS the internet.

I hope the squatters managed to get a few washes on. I'm not sure whether they had a dryer also but I can report seeing no washing lines up anywhere, so perhaps they did.

Bizzies round this morning apparently, not sure what they were doing as I was torturing myself in the shed at the time (on a bike btw).

  • 2 weeks later...
Just spoke to Jack. Squatters are now out, they have made a bit of a mess (so clearly weren't using that washing machine), not too bad however so he's going to be cleaning up and hopefully open soon (a couple of weeks). All sounds very frustrating; they were really close to a smooth transition but, once they had to shut, that turns into a chain of events (shutters up, squatters got in, then they needed evicting) turns a few days into a couple of months.

    • It didn't occur to me to ask. No idea if dieticians are employed within the NHS. It is just one line of enquiry among others. The GP mentioned it, not me.
    • I thought the most they sell in terms of hot food at londis is like pastries and sausage rolls and for hot drinks its like costa coffee but its always a convenience store. Doesn’t look too bad in my opinion considering that shop has been closed down ever since i moved here
    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
    • Wholeheartedly recommend Aria. He was polite, responsive and sorted our leak, from an old tap on an old plumbing system, with no bother and on same day.
