So five criteria:

1-peaceful good area

2-affordable to rent a 1/2 bedroom flat/house

3-with max.45 min train journey to London

4-surrounded by beautiful countryside

5-not necessary to buy a car to move around

I would say that this place doesn?t exist but there are lots of places fitting 4 of the 5 criteria. Decide which you are most willing to compromise on and go from there.

There are some lovely places in the East Surrey countryside by-the-way but if you want to keep requirements 1 and 2 you are going to have to get rid of requirement 5.

No, not joke, is a nice place and except for the train journey thing, it fits the bill, and it is also on the fast train to London if you change at Faversham so journey can be speedier......just trying to be helpful......are there "in" jokes about Whitstable then?

Ashford, Kent

1. peaceful (not gorgeous)

2. at least half the price of London

3. 37 minutes to London (St. Pancras)

4. surrounded by beautiful, truly beautiful countryside

5. definitely don't need a car

and 6. easy quick access to sea by train - take your pick of seaside towns

and 7. lovely Canterbury is 15 minutes by train for theatre/shopping/restaurants

and 8. quick train access to loads of lovely villages

Check it out, but don't judge by the walk from the train station because that is really grim.

Kennington area is nice.

    • Hate people who let off loud fireworks.  We had neighbours two doors down who used to let off the extremely loud fireworks in their back garden.   This was usually, but not always, on the days around Guy Fawkes and New Year’s.  It was torture.  I felt as if I was in the middle of them and it seemed as if they were directly outside our windows. I often involuntarily screamed as they were so loud and startling.  The dog was petrified and I was worried they would crash into the house or garden. Thankfully they’ve moved and taken their firework obsession with them.  I know someone whose dog collapsed and died during a bout of neighbourly fireworks.  Many dogs and cats go missing during firework season due to trying to escape from them.
    • Hi, We are looking at a property on Croxted Road near the Turney Road across the Garden Centre). I wanted to get people's sense on: 1. Road and train-line noise (house is on side sandwiched between street and the rail line) 2. Secondary schooling - lots of good state primaries, but I don't think there is a catchment for a good secondary The proximity to Herne Hilla and Dulwich Villages is nice as are properties on that street, but bit concerned about the above especially given required mortgage levels we might not be able to do private secondary. Thanks
    • It is supported housing run by RNIB, None of the residents support the new build as some of them would be made homeless with no guarantee of being rehoused in suitable accommodation. The rebuild will be the destruction of a communal lounge and grounds. There is an oak tree in the grounds which is several hundred of years old and has a tree preservation order. My husband's family used to live at this address and the grounds were gifted to the RNIB by his great aunt (Doctor Grace Batten) on the grounds that the tree is never cut down.
    • I think you will find that the majority of venues will not be open after midnight as in predominantly residential areas. Southwark have a list of venues to hire - you may find something that is open until 1 am. My granddaughter usually goes up town if wants a venue open until 2/3 pm
