This is the second stabbing locally this weekend, on the ITV Local news it was reported that a stabbing had taken place on Marmora Road.

And the Mayor Sidiq Khan does nothing to give the Police more power to help reduce Knife Crime.

More concerned about air quality. You are more likely to be a victim of Violent Crime than you are

to die of poor air quality.

The attached link suggest that 5,900 Londoners die annually as a consequence of air pollution (early deaths) - slightly more than London knife crime fatalities I would suggest.

That's for the whole of London. and how many of them were smokers with respiratory problems. ?

How many of those lived in the Vicinity of East Dulwich /Peckham 1/2 mile apart. in a few days.

A) Nonsense, as noted above B) Khan has introduced several initiatives to help fight knife crime C) extension of police powers has to come from the Home Office, not the Mayor and D) the biggest thing the police need is more resources - their budget has been slashed by central government.

Other than that, spot on.

ETA and it's spelled Sadiq, at least get that right.

Yes, some people seem to convenirently forget that 20,000 police officers have been lost since the coalition came to power and stations have closed as the Met tries to cope with cuts. There is not a lot the mayor of any party colour can do about that, let alone one in opposition.

There is little that can be done by the Police to stop knife crime anyway. This is why inititatives are more about pursuading people to not carry knives in the first place. But then again, there have also been massive cuts to youth services and other mentoring programmes (we can even throw Safer Neighbourhood Teams in there). Local authorities have seen central government funding cut by 40%. Everyone always wants better public services, but never thinks about where the money is coming from for that.

I don't know how widespread the ineptitude is but in my brush with the police and the CPS 7 years ago , the system was in complete chaos so it does not matter what efforts the police put in to bring criminals to book- the efforts are not followed through.

We are now 22 years on from the killing of Philip Lawrence outside his school and the knife amnesty which followed and nothing has changed

Arches should have been installed at school gates back then, mandatory sentences for possession introduced back then....now anything is too little too late- glossy pamphlets are a waste of time and money.

Funny how ALL areas of the public sector think that the tax-payers' pockets are bottomless pits...

    • I wasn’t asking if anyone would vote Reform? But as you’ve brought it up. It was a very theatrical speech as usual by Ed Davey. Why he mentioned Nigel Farage’s name 38 times but Keir Starmer’s name just once in his once in a while chance to push his party’s plans for the future I don’t know. There was nothing laid out by this man in the plan for the future and his general election grab for 2029?
    • Who? Danny Thompson or Richard Thompson?! I don't think we could/could have afforded either of them! We only started the Goose in 2008. Danny Thompson to the best of my knowledge (understandably given his instrument) only performed with other musicians, usually very well known. It never occurred to us  to ask about Richard Thompson. I think we just assumed our venues would be  too small, even DHFC.
    • I'm blue-skying here, but you did ask. In the US, there's a franchise called 'Ripley's Believe It Or Not!' It's an 'Odditorium' - basically a museum of the strange, bizarre and barely credible. They always seem quite busy - I reckon a British version could work on that site and bring some cash into the area. They also offer an affordable, quality casual dining experience. It could be called something like 'Dave's You're Shitting Me?' or 'Bob's I Shit You Not!' or 'Jimmy Hill's 'Yeah? Chinny Reckon!' And I'd like to see a helipad. And a 'Koala Kuddlery' And a windfarm. And a Mini 'Spoons.
    • Gosh, free meal for two.. peanuts as in your time.. well, I thought the salad bar was great, unlimited non alcoholic drinks, free bread, butter, etc, god knows at least six dressings for salads, plus oil and vinegar to do yourself.. yup, main courses were not fab but equally better than Mac Donald’s burgers and always had veggies options, plus fish, and chicken.. Gather one sadly around Beulah Hill area has also closed…. Certainly would not have beaten the door down to get there, but equally reasonable price with unlimited salad bar plus various desserts at an affordable price for all… Not a fan of Wetherspoons at all - all chucked in microwave but equally  can’t knock them for prices and certainly booze is cheap compared to Lordship Lane eateries.. So, what do we all think is going to replace the non exsistent pub? Or would like to see?  If Dulwich Estates were not landlords.. I will start — social housing, new health centre, Aldi/Lidl/Iceland…A building that incorporates community areas/ library/ roof top space for planting, rooms let out at affordable prices, let’s go crazy here, along the same theme, opportunity to ask local residents what they would like or, who ever leases it or buys it to have an open day and show to all interested if not a block of flats, plans and suggestions… might a well dream on.. maybe, will be second hand car garage… tent city in containers - least would not be homeless and have your own space, key and lock…
