Penguin68
Do you mean by 'online' via a smart meter? - in which case I think that may be right, it should also be possible to diagnose errors remotely. With a dumb meter the meter must be read at least once a year. Additionally gas meters may need to be physically checked in case of issues with gas leakage. Meters are anyway replaced on a regular basis (though not frequently). The reference to "online" above by yeknomyeknom (good name btw!) was in response to my saying "I regularly send them readings online" - so nothing to do with a smart meter! Fwomble
I was told that when smart meters are installed next year there will no longer be any need for physical meter readings and thus readers Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/176764-meter-reader-with-no-id/page/2/#findComment-1204944 Share on other sites

Blah Blah
Not sure about that. It will take some time to roll out smart meters and prepayment meters will still exist. And I would think that even smart meters will have to be checked in the same way meters are now for safety reasons. I assume criminals still bypass meters too, so who will check for that?
