Moosling off to school (sniff) in September, and I've heard a lot about the tiredness and stress of the first term for little ones as they adjust to school life. Also heard that the second term is very hard, as this is when the actual schoolwork, homework etc. really begins. I'll be going back to work at the same time but very much hope to be able to work short hours so that I will be able to pick him up from school. However, this will probably mean taking advantage of the pre-school "club" from 8/8.30.

So, in the context of all this for the little chap, I've discovered his school will offer a swimming club once a week after school. Keen as I am for him to have the fun of being able to swim - he loves going to the swimming pool but can't actually swim at all - I wonder whether it would be better to put it off for a year. I can't imagine a space will be available in the summer term only.

I would be really grateful for any advice from parents of schoolkids as to what their experiences were, and how it affected the little ones.

(School at four!! It's just not right)

I found my daughter to be very emotional and whingy (=tired) after a day at school but then again she goes to afterschool club so she is at school till 5.30ish. She is better now than when she first started. In fact she gets upset if I pick her up 'early'.

As swimming is so tiring anyway it may not be the best activity when Moosling first starts at school but he would probably be ok after a couple of terms. Could you book a place on it and see how it goes? Or would you have to pay for whole term?

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
