mrsps
Looking for a bit of advice...We live in a terraced house and over the winter months have had some water leaking down an inside wall. The house has a Loft extension that has a pitched roof at the back so it?s a bit difficult to access the roof and see where the problem is coming from. We?ve been quoted ?1000 to have someone put scaffolding up to look at what the problem is, ie completely separate to any work that we would actually have done on the roof. This seems a bit absurd to me, so I was just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience of roof work done and could offer any advice? ThanksNaomi Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/179133-advice-needed-re-roofing-issue/ Share on other sites
intexasatthe moment
If you have a velux window some firms will access the roof via that to do an initial investigation . AbDabs
Do you know anyone with a drone you could borrow? It may be obvious from photographs what/where the problem is. Sue
?1000 seems excessive to put up scaffolding, to say the least!Russell Perring is an excellent roofer (if he's still around), you could try asking his advice. The number I have for him is 07852 972052. nxjen
AbDabs Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Do you know anyone with a drone you could borrow?> It may be obvious from photographs what/where the> problem is.That reminds me that one time I saw a roof survey carried out in Dunstans Road by a camera mounted on a long thin telescopic device. The surveyor was able to move the camera remotely and look at the photos transmitted in his truck to assess condition of roof that way. No idea if this would be cheaper than erecting scaffolding but would certainly involve a lot less faffing about. There are companies who provide this service on the internet. yeknomyeknom
We used trace surveys who are a leak detection specialist. It?s 3-400 but a proper survey. You will then know the cause of the leak which may be quick and easy to fix yourselves. Before them we spent several thousand pounds going with roofers recommended works and the leak didn?t get fixed. So be warned of paying for works that don?t guarantee a fix.
