We are moving to Dulwich at the beginning of March and having to leave our beloved son's nursery place in North London behind. We really want to find a place for him in a local nursery just for a summer term (apr-july), but quite a few places I have contacted are all booked out. Since we do not know much about the area and don't know many people it's difficult to know what is available. Any insights or tips would be very appreciated.
Ruskin House School is a lovely warm and caring nursery in Herne Hill. I don't know if they have spaces or not, but it's worth a call. My son loves it - they have Theatrebugs and Spanish teaching and good outside space as well. If you search online (ie mumsnet) you may see some negative reviews, which did put me off, but they relate to the previous management who are long gone. Their recent Ofsted was 'outstanding' - although for me the critical thing is that the staff obviously enjoy being with children and treat them very well.
I would imagine that refers to the baby room, most likely due to the higher staff ratios required. We took up a place only a few months after inquiring. They are also expanding - I had a look at the new room for the oldest group this week. It's very smart and will have all new equipment and furniture. I'd give them a ring and see what they say.

For a 4 year old you may wish to check if your first choice primary school or others you plan to apply to have places. These are probably not full time but would help your child to get to know local children and the other hours could be covered by a childminder or by using a wrap around service provider, the following is a local example. http://excelchildcareservices.com/wrap-around-service/

The other thing to be aware of that you will need to contact the admissions department of Southwark when you move as you will be moving address between primary application deadline and allocation date, your application will be considered as a late application. If you know your address in Dulwich and if you wish for assistance with this process please email me.

    • Is it possible for someone to change the heading, because it is not clear that this "fatality" has not just happened. I'm not sure that the OP still posts on here. Admin?
    • A couple of updates to this terrible event:   1) In 2021, two cousins (one from Penge and one from Streatham) were convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison. • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.
