The Salvation Army shop in Nunhead take D of E volunteers as do some other charity shops. The Friends of Nunhead Cemetery take volunteers for their workdays (first Sunday of the month from 10-4) if your child likes physical outdoor work.

Also the Salvation Army in Nunhead run a food bank. They are open on Wednesday to Saturday and are based on Nunhead Green, a few doors down from the Nuns Head. There is also a charity shop and great cafe there

Yes they do, also Harris Westminster. I do think most local sixth formers do stay with one of the relatively local options. It's worth looking at St Thomas the Apostle and Harris ED both which have a mixed 6th form. Haberdashers also take in a large number of external students at sixth form level and Christ the King 6th form college in Brockley is another local option.

The Council wouldn't do this without first writing to you asking you to do it and telling you that if you don't cut it back by a certain date, they will do it and charge it to you. The waste also would be removed. The fact it was done on a Saturday, with no letter and the waste left points to a neighbour! Renata

Most secondary school after school clubs are free. The things you may need to pay for are outside the activities run by teachers eg Lambda drama course if external teachers are used or Duke of Edinburgh for camping trips etc. Renata

Hi Bodsier, I am a Southwark Councillor! I represent Peckham Rye Ward, this encompasses South Nunhead, a bit of East Dulwich and a bit of Honor Oak, south of Peckham Rye Park and east of Forest Hill Rd. No Southwark secondary schools are under LA control, They are all academies/free or faith schools. Most children who have the most common SENs ie ADHD/dyslexia/dyspraxia don't have a statement of SEN and therefore the schools don't get additional funding to support them. What I have reported her is purely the feedback I have had from parents with children with SEN who have attended and had good experience of support for their child in local schools, in some cases they have picked those schools due to how children with SEN are supported at those schools from what they have heard from other parents. I know parents with children at Charter ED but have not had any feedback about their SEN support.

Hi staniulyte your child will automatically be placed on the waiting list for the ?6 schools on your original application form. There will be movement on those waiting lists over the next weeks and months and she may then secure a place at one of the schools you applied for. Kingsdale operates a lottery system and places are allocated randomly there. Your local authority should be able to inform you of the position of your child on the waiting lists of the schools you applied to. As Al-Gardener pointed out grounds for appeal was if something had been done incorrectly in the application process or if there were reasons that no other school would be suitable for your child eg on medical grounds. You can ask your local authority to place your child on the waiting list of schools you didn't apply for in the initial application process. Very few appeals are won as the criteria to uphold an appeal are very stringent. Renata

Nunhead and Camberwell Old Cemeteries will be closed on Friday due to the forecast of 70mph winds. They may not be open at the weekend as a full inspection will be required for safety reasons prior to their re-opening

Hi the normal system if your child needs braces is that your dentist refers your child for orthodontics. This is free. The places locally that children are referred to are King's Dental Hospital, Guys Dental Hospital and the Dulwich Orthodontic Practice. It is likely that the reason why you haven't had any local recommendations on here is that local children who require orthodontic treatment will have been referred to one of the centres I mentioned. I have no experience of the Dulwich centre, but Kings and Guys are both teaching facilities and are very good. You do tend to be seen faster at Guys than Kings as Guys is larger and Kings tends to have a waiting list of several months. Renata

Creating an event might help you reach more group members. Renata Hamvas ? Covid Vaccination no 1 or 2 for a 12-15 year old? If your 12-15 year old child has had a first vaccine over 12 weeks ago (and is therefore due a second) or hasn't had a jab yet, there are walk-in clinics at the Tessa Jowell Centre on East Dulwich Grove (37 bus goes there). They are 9am-2pm on Sundays and 9am-6pm on Thursdays. Your child should not have a vaccine if they have had Covid in the last 12 weeks. A parent/guardian needs to attend with the child. There was no queue there yesterday after school hours. Older Teens and adults can also have vaccinations there. It is also possible to book via the NHS website, but the Tessa Jowell centre doesn't show up as an option on there.

Schools that I have had positive feedback from parents re ADHD and other SEN support have been St Thomas the Apostle in Nunhead, also Haberdashers and Deptford Green in New Cross. Additionally, Forest Hill Boys and Harris Girls. First two from parents with children with ADHD. Deptford Green has an autism support unit and has a good reputation for SEN support.

Attached are the times of walk-in clinics this week at the Tessa Jowell Clinic, Kristal Pharmacy in Nunhead and Lister in Peckham. They are doing first, second and booster jabs for 18+ . You don't need your NHS number or ID with you. The Covid-19 rates in Southwark are soaring so please if you haven't had the jabs you are eligible for please go and get jabbed to protect yourself and your loved ones and everyone else around you. I don't know exactly the total recycling percentage but nothing goes to landfill and nothing goes abroad. Most of the recycled material is processed locally, but the plastic milk containers go to a specialised facility in Merseyside.

Hi Sally, thanks for that about the Co-Op. From Nunhead Rocks I've picked up that rinsed out cat food pouches can also be disposed of there for recycling. I forgot to mention clothes and fabrics. There are recycling bins for fabrics linked to charities. Unusable clothes and bedding can be put in these as the fibres are then recycled and made into new fabric.

I spent Friday afternoon visiting the Refuse and Recycling Centre, just off the Old Kent Road. It was an amazing sight, a huge web of conveyor belts sorting rubbish (a lot of it automatic sorting , such as powerful magnets removing metals and size/weight sorting for paper and cardboard, but a very skilled team also manually pick out items that have been mis-sorted by the automatic sorting). A few things I picked up that may be useful for residents to know. The metallic/plasticky cat food pouches are not recyclable at present. Film on top of ready meals, and cling film are not recyclable. Cling film wraps around the rotors and causes the system to jam. All harder plastic containers, even the darker almost black ones are now recyclable. Tetrapacks are recyclable. The plastic milk containers should be rinsed out, flattened and the lids put back on. They are recycled by pelleting and the pellets are made into new milk containers. Steel cans and aluminium cans (and other aluminium items) are easily recycled by the machines, but if you eg have had a can of baked beans, please rinse it out. Pizza boxes with a few grease marks are recyclable, if they have cheese, tomato sauce, bits of pizza in them they are not (you can cut out the bases and recycle the food free bits. Compostable coffee cups don't compost in the normal food waste, they need a special process, so either return them to where you got them from or put in general waste. (better to use a reusable cup). Please put your recycling loose in the recycling bins, plastic bags jam up the system. (unless you have been given the large clear recycling bags) All glass is separated out and made into glass based insulation. Nothing is sent overseas for recycling, most is done locally. Thanks Renata
