  1. I don't know any details at the moment, but there appears to have been an incident at Peckham Levels, the building has been evacuated and fire engines are in attendance. I hope everyone is OK. I would suggest if possible that you avoid the area. Renata
  2. Alternatives could be to take a bus to New Cross Gate and pick up the overground to Canada Water from there; or train from Peckham Rye to Lewisham and then the DLR or if via London Bridge is better, the train. Renata
  3. It would depend, leasehold or freehold, house? flat? is it listed? Renata
  4. The License was granted with around 100 conditions attached to it. It has been granted for an initial year only to see if there are any issues. I was a bit concerned when the P13 and P4 were given as the way people would get home. They hadn't checked; these are low frequency routes and single decker buses, both routes have cropped up on this forum due to their lack of capacity and infrequency! The tower lights will be switched off 30 minutes after the event finishes. There are stringent noise controls and will be regular sound level checks at the closest properties. Litter picking will be done frequently. Vehicle movement will be on tracking to reduce risk of damage to the grass. There will be stewards at bus stops and directing people to the train stations. The tickets do not cover food and drink. The emphasis of this festival is food, with Michelin starred chefs cooking and ?5 mini platters being available to sample their cooking. The alcohol and music are ancillary to the food. Tickets only include watching the food demos and the music. They are conditioned not to use single use plastics (something that is being introduced with all new licenses and also applies to the Gala Festival), so it will probably involve paying a deposit for a reusable polycarbonate glass that you return and swap for a replacement one. 5. Hi Ryanbest, Zippos Circus visit Peckham Rye once a year in the Autumn, not a shop! :)
  6. The Nuns Head or Waverley Arms may be worth contacting to see if they could accommodate you. Renata
  7. This may be useful to those reading the thread and also to pass on to friends and family. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/births-deaths-marriage-and-citizenship/eu-settlement-scheme?article&article&&article Renata
  8. Hi Taycee, your deposit should have been put in an official deposit scheme and you should have been provided with the details in order to claim the deposit back. Any dispute is resolved independently of the Landlord and Tenant. If she hasn't done this, as she isn't living in the flat, this is illegal. Is the property a Council flat, I'm just wondering as you say she appears to live there but doesn't in reality? If it is she may be illegally subletting. If she has the deposit rather than having deposited it in a scheme you should tell her you will be telling the authorities and taking legal action (eg small claims court). Renata
  9. The new post office inside Kristal Pharmacy in Nunhead is open until 7pm, (6.30 on Saturday), there does't tend to be much of a queue there and the shop is like an Aladdin's cave! (plus Beaumont greengrocers and Sopers the fishmonger close by).
  10. Both schools and all other primary schools in the Dulwich area are good. I would second what Goldilocks says that if your child goes to DVI you need to consider distance to Dulwich Hamlet if that is where you would like your child to go for Juniors. DVI is small as it's infants only and Rosendale is a larger than average (3 form entry) primary. Also DVI is a faith (Church of England) school and Rosendale is a community school run by the Lambeth. Also be aware that you will need to apply in the LA you live in, you can (and should) apply to 6 local schools in order of preference and the closing date if your child is 4 before the 31st August 2020 is 15th January 2020. Renata
  11. MKK on Evelina Rd in Nunhead are a fantastic plumbing and sanitary-ware supplier. Unfortunately they are closing down as the owner is retiring, so their stock is on sale. What they don't have in stock they can order in from the catalogues they have on display and they are very helpful and knowledgeable. They also know local tradespeople for installation. Renata
  12. Thanks Hello Sailor and Monkey. Hi Monkey, several of Lewisham's Secondaries are Council run, others follow the same admission policies as the Lewisham run schools. It is not a Southwark strategy, it's as a result of the hotch potch of admission systems we unfortunately have in this Borough. Renata
  13. The issue in Southwark is that no Secondary schools are under Local Authority control. If all the Secondaries were, there would be the same admissions system for all the schools, making it easier and more transparent for local parents. Renata
  14. Hello all. The Council doesn't have the information. All Southwark Secondaries have their own admissions policies and rank all their applicants according to their criteria. What Southwark does is the number crunching, which of the schools a child applies to is the highest ranked one of their CAF that they fulfill the admissions criteria for. I have spoken directly with the person who deals with admissions at Charter ED. You are all pretty much correct but for different years! In 2018 the last place offered on distance on offer day was around a km. There was a lot of movement on the waiting list that year and by the start of term it had moved to more than 1.3km. In 2019 the last place offered was at 954m from the school. There was little movement on the waiting list so the places that came up went to children who had moved into the area after 31st October 2018 and lived closer than 954 or had secured a place under other criteria eg an older sibling got a place at the school or they were a previously looked after child or under SEN. The last place offered at the start of the school year in 2019 was approximately 1km, so significantly less than 2018. Something that could inpact this year is that there could be a increase in sibling numbers as the firat intake are currently in year 9 and a 2-3 year gap between siblings is common. The situation will change again in entry for 22 or 23 as the school plans to expand by 2FE then. There are no catchment areas for Southwark schools, so last place distances can vary quite significantly from year to year. Renata
  15. I had the same response from one of the Southwark Arborists. It is a difficult case as the trees are newer than the bridge and they need to access under the trees for the repairs. The removal of the trees have been put on hold while they investigate further to see if there is an alternative solution. Renata
  16. Hi Tiddles, it would come under Thames Water to resolve. Their number is 0800 316 9800. If you have problems with getting hold of them, please email me (details below) with the details of where it is and I will contact them on your behalf. Renata
  17. Hi Monkey, to confirm what Scrummymummy says, each school administers their own admissions process and therefore you will hear from the individual schools. I believe Harris has one test for their schools, so if you've applied to more than one of their schools, you'll sit the test once. If for some reason you can't sit a test on an allocated day, let the school know ASAP so that you can do the test on an alternative day. Renata
  18. If you have no joy with emailing direct Boddle, please email me and I will raise it with Council officers. Renata
  19. I think, Cllr Catherine Rose and all the other active group of parents involved in making the school happen deserves credit here (I met with her when she represented the parents group over the setting up of a new school well before she was a Councillor). Also James wasn't the only Councillor involved (some of us were quietly and less publicly involved behind the scenes, talking to Council Officers and possible providers over the setting up of a new secondary school!). Renata
  20. I have contacted one of the tree officers about this and I'm waiting to hear back from him Renata
  21. Today is the deadline to apply for secondary admissions to year 7 in September 2020. For those of you who haven't yet put in your application :- Do put your choices in true order of preference, schools do not know where you have put them on the CAF Do use your 6 preferences Do attend banding tests, if you don't apply to a school that has a banding test and apply post offer day, or your child doesn't do the banding test, they will go below all children who have done the test in order of priority on waiting lists. Single sex schools tend to take children from a bit further away than mixed ones (fewer places going to siblings and the places are only accessible to half the children). Harris Boys/Girls, Sydenham, St Thomas the Apostle, Forest Hill Boys. Do not limit yourself to Borough boundaries, eg Deptford Green, Haberdashers, Forest Hill Boys, Sydenham all take quite a few Southwark children each year (be aware the Lewisham last place distance offer diagram is incorrect, the northern nodal point is missing for Haberdashers, other schools do take children from outside LB Lewisham! You will automatically go on the waiting list of any school above one you are offered. There is movement on waiting lists right up to September/October. You can be added to the waiting list of any other schools post offer day, but do note my note above about banding tests. Lewisham do not add onto waiting lists for a while after offer day. Filling up all six places is better than wait and see and the being added onto waiting lists. Your position on a waiting list can move down as well as up as eg people who move into an area and live closer to a school than you would go above your child if allocation is done on distance. Putting down only 3 schools only does not increase your chance of getting one of those schools. Place allocations for offer day are wholly in accordance with each school's admissions criteria. You may be offered your third choice school if it's the highest school you fulfill the criteria for, over many other people who put it first. Make sure you tick the sibling box if your child has a sibling at the school. Each school ranks all the applicants according the their admissions criteria. The ranked data goes back to Southwark. Your child may eg be eligible for places at 3 of the 6 schools on your list, you will only be offered a place at the highest ranked of these on your CAF. If you are not ranked highly enough for your child to be offered a place at any of your preferred schools, your child will be allocated a place at the nearest school (within the Borough if your application) that has vacancies remaining. Good luck everybody! Renata
  22. Hi Bellenden Bear, I've just done this. Thanks Birnehelene for posting my email. Renata
  23. I thought it may be useful to people on this thread to post the planning classes as "change of use" is mentioned a few times on here. One type of shop changing into another type of shop doesn't constitute change of use in terms of planning and therefore doesn't require permission from the council. 3 Class A ? shops (including some services) 3.1 Class A1 ? shops and retail outlets 3.2 Class A2 ? professional services 3.3 Class A3 ? food and drink 3.4 Class A4 ? drinking establishments 3.5 Class A5 ? hot food and takeaway 4 Class B ? further business and industrial activities 4.1 Class B1 ? business 4.2 Class B2 - general industrial use 4.3 Class B8 ? storage or distribution 5 Class C ? hotels, hostels and dwelling houses 5.1 Class C1 5.2 Class C2 5.3 Class C3 5.4 Class C4-large HMOs 6 Class D ? non-residential institutions 6.1 Class D1 6.2 Class D2 7 Sui generis (eg nightclubs) Renata
  24. Brenchley Gardens Tenants and Resident's Hall? It's a small cosy hall with a little kitchen and toilets on Brenchley Gardens. [email protected]
  25. To add to the above, if you apply to any secondary that has a banding assessment, it is important that your child does the assessment. Children who haven't done the banding assessment go to the bottom of the pile!
