Disgusting lack of Easter eggs in shops - not happy
Renata Hamvas replied to Loutwo's topic in The Lounge
There were some left in the Co-Op in Nunhead yesterday -
You need to email them

Hollydale Primary in Nunhead is a one form entry primary. Another option would be Rye Oak, not a small primary but it has a specialised ASD unit attached. Renata

Does anyone know where to get a pet mouse?
Renata Hamvas replied to portioncontrol's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Rehoming is definitely best, but if this doesn't work try ringing Supreme Foods, they are one of the largest independent pet shops in the area and if they can't supply one they probably know who stocks mice. https://supremeanimalfoods.co.uk/ Renata -
Following on from a number of posts on Nunhead Rocks, about lack of O2 service in the Nunhead area, I've just been on the phone to them. A mast is down, close to Brockley Station on the B218. Apparently, you don't get signal from a mast near you, but the signal forms a ring further away from the mast, so the Linden Grove mast serves other areas. They are fully aware that this is affecting huge numbers of residents in the area. It has been down since February 2019 and they haven't got a date set to fix it! This is crazy! I'm contacting Southwark's Officers to see if they can put pressure on O2. It is a shared mast and Vodaphone and possibly other networks are affected by this. Can you please tell me which streets have issues and which network so I can try and establish how far reaching this issue is. So far It appears to be the whole of Nunhead from Queen's Rd down to Camberwell New Cemetery and parts of Telegraph Hill. I was wondering if East Dulwich is affected too, (or whether ED is served by a different mast). Thanks Renata

The current rules are that dogs are to be on leads in all areas of all of the Southwark Cemeteries. This is to assist with social distancing measures and that the Cemeteries are busier than usual.

I don't think termites are found in the UK? You can get woodworm though. If there is a history of subsidence of the property it could affect your buildings insurance.

Hi Bonnierach, yes PeckhamNicola is correct, the two Haberashers Askes primaries are: Hatcham Temple Grove - Hunsdon Road, London SE14 5RD Hatcham Temple Grove Free School - Pepys Road, London SE14 5EF both feed into the secondary school

If you live around East Nunhead/Telegraph Hill, Harris ED would be too far from you. I would suggest you look at the two Haberdashers primaries as they are also in the area of the other primaries you mention. Renata

6th form options - vocational
Renata Hamvas replied to mumof3girlies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Christ The King 6th Form college do it at their Lewisham, Emmanuel site. Southwark college and Lewisham College offer a University of the Arts London level 3 Art course that is one year that can be followed by a second year which is free if you are under 19 when you start. Renata -
6th form options - vocational

Would an Art and Design BTEC extended diploma be the way to go? This is done over two years and is equivalent to 3 A levels. Many students leave during year 12 and start sixth form again. Unfortunately due to COVID the number of apprenticeships available has dropped dramatically. Renata -
Tomskip has got it right. None of the local schools have a catchment area.Last place distances can vary significantly from year to year. Haberdashers last place distance tends to be similar to the Charter schools and therefore in previous years children from SE22 haven't tended to be offered places unless they are allocated places on criteria other than distance. Secondary School admissions 2021
Renata Hamvas replied to whingeo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi all, please apply to six schools with at least one being one that you are likely to be offered a place at. Some of the schools children have gone to are Charter ED, Charter, Kingsdale, Haberdashers, Deptford Green, Elm Green, Harris Girls, Harris Boys, St Thomas the Apostle, Sydenham Girls, Prendergast, Forest Hill Boys plus several others! You can put schools outside Southwark down. It's fine to have preferred long shots down as long as there are some realistic choices there too! Please put your schools in true order of preference. Schools do not know what order you put them in. They rank all their applicants and sent the list to Southwark. A computerised system allocates each child the highest ranked school they are eligible for a place for. Your child will automatically go on the waiting list for any higher ranked school than the one they were allocated. If you child hasn't been allocated any of their preferred schools, Southwark will allocated one, which will be the closest school that still has places available, which could be quite far away. It is for that reason that I suggest using all your six choices. For secondary schools, as none are under LA control and administer their own admissions policies, they have last place distance information. Be aware that last place distances can vary quite siginificantly from year to year. Remember the deadline for applications is the 31st October Renata -
Hi Kamath, I agree with the above re rescues. We have ours outside in the warmer months (in a hutch inside a shed with windows, if you have a hutch outside, make sure it is a fox proof one) and inside during the colder months (they moved inside when the weather changed a couple of weeks ago). If you have grass, they enjoy going in a run in summer, they are like mini lawnmowers. They need to be put away by dusk, as yes, foxes are a problem! Try and get as big a hutch that you can fit. You may be able to pick one up from the Forum. They make great pets.

Hi Cora. An option that may fit what you are looking for is King's Maths School. It is a specialist state sixth form College where students study Maths,Further Maths, Physics and either Economics or Computer Studies, I think it's hard to get into! There are the good local offerings of Charter, Kingsdale, Haberdashers Askes and if a 6th form College is preferred over a school, look at Christ the King 6th form college (A levels are taught on the Brockley site). I have quite limited knowledge on the Bacc, I know a couple of people who've done it, it seems to be the favoured route if you are thinking to apply to Universities abroad (US or mainland Europe) or if you aren't sure which route to take for A levels and therefore want to keep your options open.

Southwark Covid figures up ? 26/08
Renata Hamvas replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In Southwark many young adults live in the same household as other adults, typically parents and sometimes grandparents. The numbers are rising across London. The advise that we would like residents to take on-board is to keep your distance from others, wear a mask in shops and on public transport, wash your hands thoroughly and regularly, get tested and self-isolate if you suspect you have Covid-19 symptoms. Self-isolate if anyone in your household/bubble or if recent contacts have Covid-19 symptoms. It's going to be more challenging with schools opening up over the next couple of weeks. Secondaries will have whole year bubbles. The fact that different schools mix on the same buses and many secondary pupils travel by bus to school, does mean that year bubbles won't be self contained units at all in London (even with staggered lessons within year groups in individual schools)! I'm assuming you mean the Nunhead side of the Rye ? Rye Oak,Hollydale, ST Francesca Cabrini, and Ivydale Primaries are all good schools. The former two are closer if you are more towards Nunhead Lane and the Later two if you are more towards Brenchley Gardens.St Francesca Cabrini School is Catholic but takes non-Catholics on distance. Depending exactly where you are looking to buy, Fairlawn could also be an option. Some children from the East of the Rye also go to Goodrich. When you apply for primary schools, I would advise you put down six primary schools in true order of preference. I don't think it's problematic to find a place in a good primary school in the area. I agree with Bonnierach that secondaary is more of an issue, particulary if you want a mixed school as your closest options are single sexed schools. This could change as there are fewer 4/5 year olds than 11/12 year olds, so pressure on Secondary places is likely to be lower in a few years time. Secondary Schools for people living on Underhill
Renata Hamvas replied to Gloves's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Agree with the above, for up to age 16, your options will predominantly be single sex with mixed sixth forms. Harris Boys and Girls, STAC, Sydenham Girls and Forest Hill Boys. You may get in to Kingsdale via their lottery system. Deptford Green could also be a mixed option with travel by train. If you child is musical there are also the options of Haberdashera Aske's and Prendergast. Renata -
Hi Ronnijade, sorry your post is not very clear.Whose property are they on? If they are in your garden then you need to find a tree surgeon for advice/quote. If in a neighbouring property, than the owner of the land. They may be not interested in doing s crown/height reduction of the trees. Do they undermine the structure of your or neighbouring homes? If they are very old trees they may have a protection order on them. You should be able to establish who the owner is via the Land Registry.

I have tried again and the manager hasn't called back yet. I do know post is taking up to 7 weeks and is not arriving in the time order it's sent in.

I managed to get hold of someone at Peckham sorting office today. They still have staff sickness, but the situation is slowly improving. They are dealing with unprecedented amounts of post. A manager who knows more details in relation to the backlog is currently in a meeting and will contact me later (however I have a meeting so we may not be able to speak today). They are holding post for 4 rather than the usual 2 if you need to pick any post up. I will update once I have spoken to the manager. Renata
