Fuschia
There was some interesting research by the fsa into parental attitudes towards advice (about formula Prep)And they identified the following 'types''avoiders who actively avoid issues in order not to have to change habitspragmatists who only change habits if they believe opinion is widespreadheadline reactives who tend to display concern which is often short-lived, resulting in a fairly superficial impact (NB pragmatists and headline reactives display similar needs and were jointly termed mainstream for the purposes of this research)purists who are more cautious and knowledgeable than the other types so are more able to decide on what action to take as a result'I freely admit to probably Thinking a bit TOO much which must make me a purist!Do you recognise yourself, and why?I do a lot of optiOn appraisal etc for work - not sure if that affects my parenting or both are just signs of my personality!http://www.food.gov.uk/science/socsci/ssres/ssarchive/ssarchivesafety/infantformula Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18271-attitudes-to-advice/ Share on other sites
mockney piers
"pragmatists who only change habits if they believe opinion is widespread"That doesn't sound like pragmatists, more like sheep. The Financial Services Authority? I'd have thought they'd have more pressing matters. Weird. Belle
think is foods standards agency?am sure am either the pragmatists one or headline issues. But then isn't there a type who weighs it up, acknowledges what is probably best, but opts on balance to stick with a different path for their own reasons? Don't think that's quite the same as the 'avoiders' type. Moos
I think there are plenty of people who seek out evidence that fits their own predispositions and find reasons to dismiss evidence that doesn't. Not sure what you'd call them. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18271-attitudes-to-advice/#findComment-452388 Share on other sites
