Does anyone know the REAL reason why East Dulwich Grove is closed in both directions? When is it going to end?!

For the past two mornings, I've had the journey from hell via Denmark Hill to Dulwich Village. It's bad enough having to negotiate my way through the coaches on Townley Road, now I have these cement mixers and diggers in my way. It better not be a dulwich village saga all over again. Worst of all, as children were walking past the chaos that ensued on East Dulwich Grove, there was one conway contractor smoking away whilst digging up the gas supply!! What is he thinking?!

First of all, it was people looking in my bins, then crying babies in creches, now road closures without any notice.

I would like to know if any other dulwich residents have had similar experiences over the past two days. It is turning into such a palaver.

Peace out.

It's terrible... those children could have been on their way to the hospital and they have to breathe in that guys cigarette or cigar smoke?!

I went to take my shirts to the dry cleaners yesterday and planned to get some food from the pizza or Indian takeaways afterwards but there was so much noise and commotion - plus I was concerned I might get hit by flying gravel with all the digging going on - that I had to take my business to Lordship Lane. How much more does local trade have to suffer as a result of the council constantly ripping up our roads?!

The council can't win.

If they don't do the necessary work then they will get inundated with complaints because of that.

Give them a break!

    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.

    • Ugly...maybe..does it bother me..NO! I think its somehow reassuring to see theres still phoneboxes around. East Dulwich may  be getrified but there may well be some elderly people who don't have mobiles and kids who may have lost theirs adults ditto etc etc. I'd rather keep it than lose it...just because i don't use it does'nt mean its not needed.  there are many eyesores in the modern world not all of them as potentially useful.
    • I strongly recommend Balayage salon in Lordship lane as everytime I visit, they make me feel very spicial with thier profisionalism and care.   I have been going there for the last 10 years maybe more, and will never exchange them for any other. They are profisional, welcoming and they also always have an offer. I feel like a new woman every time. X
