Have been looking at forecasts .

Cold sweeping in from the east and Siberia .

Snow from Tuesday in SE ?

Armageddon on Friday .Or quite possibly not .

I'd be grateful for predictions .Supposed to be flying Luton to Belfast on Tuesday afternoon ,returning Thursday .

London will potentially get a few cm?s tomorrow night and into Tuesday. It will feel very cold, but it really will need to snow heavily to settle for any period. My hunch is that the bigger potential for disruptive snow will come towards the end of the week, and will probably herald slightly milder conditions there on in.

Very cold for late February in London - yes. The coldest weather for decades? No.

Snow - probably yes. Extreme snowmageddon - no.

Met office are the best in the world

Daily Express and other tabloids buy their forecasts from the cheapest service and tend to be alarmist.

I'll be cycling in all week as per usual, and sadly I doubt if it will be sledging weather, but I'll have an extra layer.

I expect airports will be well prepared.

Biggest issue I ever had was with (a) fog a year ago all airports disrupted (b) getting to Luton airport on a snowy day as Thameslink was down, but not due to the weather (you couldn't make that one up!)

We could wake up on Tuesday morning to an Icing of Snow.

Trains in South East London will come to a complete stand still.

Gritters will be left abandoned in the streets as their oil freezes and their batteries run down.

There will be major food shortages as delivery lorries are caught in 5 mile back logs.

The Thames will freeze over at Richmond Bridge.

Thousands of Birds will perish unable to find Food.

The rest of the day is expected to turn warmer with Bright Sunshine with a light Southernly breeze.

Yes- I came across a childhood diary and on 5th April 1963 I wrote 'it is snowing just as the Americans said it would'. I was in London at the time. That was, of course, the end of the worst winter of my lifetime- so far.

Think I'll just look out the window if that's alright with you.

Looking out the window won?t be able to tell you what?s coming in a few hours time. If you look out the window now it?s dry, partly cloudy and above freezing. A few miles down the road in Sevenoaks it?s two below freezing and snowing.

    • Admin, please move this if it's in the wrong section. Can anybody recommend a reasonably local dietician (or possibly nutritionist? Not sure what the difference is). My GP has suggested I see a dietician, but there isn't one attached to the practice. I have googled, but it's very hard to tell what people may be like from an online description, and I want somebody who is properly qualified. Alternatively, please PM me if you know of people I should avoid! Thanks x

    • If you look at the application linked to in the OP, you'll see it's a Licensing Act 2003 one, in this case for the purposes of sale by retail of alcohol and for the provision of late night refreshment: "TAKEAWAY COFFEE/ HOT SNACKS 2300-0100". IF the shop counts as a Hot Food Takeaway, then section P48 of the Southwark Plan https://www.southwark.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2024-09/Southwark Plan 2022 reduced 1.pdf , which appears to be the latest one linked to on Southwark's site, will I presume be applied in any  planning application (Is there one?). It says: "New hot food takeaways will only be permitted where: ..... 3. The proposed location is further than 400 metres from any existing or proposed primary or secondary school’s boundary; ....." It incorporates  policy laid down in the National Planning Policy Framework, and thence the London Plan.  Over the years KFC, and others, have taken a  number of appeals against local planning authority decisions on Takeaways to the Planning Inspectorate.  Some have been allowed.  KFCs 'commentary on evidence contained in London Plan Topic Paper: Hot Food Takeaways', https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/nlp_ad_91.pdf may be of interest to some. I'm guessing it's referring to https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/london_plan_topic_paper_on_hot_food_takeaways.pdf of 2018, but haven't yet checked.
