Have you heard about Toe by Toe? https://www.toe-by-toe.co.uk/

It is a programme used in many schools to support dyslexic pupils. You do not have to be a teacher to do it because it is prescriptive, guiding you through what to do at each stage. It works with as little as 10 minutes a day.

I have not used it in school, but I know many other teachers who have and have found it successful in helping those struggling to recognise phonemes and use them confidently.

If will certainly work out much cheaper than a tutor! You might even find a class TA could do it with your child (if there is one). Little and often will work better than an hour a week with a tutor.

Another big thumbs up for Toe by Toe. We used it home, started with my dyslexic daughter around 7yo and it was a real turning point for her with reading. I wish there was a similar tool for writing. She?s 10 and still very challenged with writing and spelling.

I found my son's tutor through the PATOSS website, which has a database of accredited tutors. You have to register with an email (for free) to search in your area, but then you can contact tutors directly.

Our tutor is great but unfortunately she's not taking on new students at the moment. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

    • Please don't encourage people who want the trees removed! I love seeing all the trees round here! My war is against Photinias. I bloody hate them. They are everywhere. And they are just getting their horrible red leaves at the top. My partner points them out to me from the tops of buses. My  daughter sends me videos of them to taunt me 🤣
    • agree with Sue and Sue given that trees can be relied upon to lose their leaves once a year at the same time, the council is going to have its work cut out cleaning everyone's streets simultaneously - in addition to all the stuff that needs doing in later autumn.  The leaves form an excellent garden mulch and a bit of citizen action to complement the council is probably all that's needed. Or maybe the council could just get rid of the trees?  then we'll free up so much time to go to war on the dogs instead!
    • Hello, My 10 year old sporty boy is regularly getting up very early. Are there any sports club in or near ED before school that you'd recommend? Thanks, Sue
