Holistic, effective & innovative tutoring offered

Recommended Posts

Exam and coursework season is fast approaching. I am offering to assist GCSE & A-level students in developing skills, techniques and coping mechanisms to help them perform to best of their abilities and use their study time as effectively as possible.

Amidst all of the myriad humanities / language tutors out there, I can offer students something more than just demonstrating my knowledge of the subject and hoping something sticks. In sessions with me expect to cover, as appropriate:

- Exam / coursework techniques clinic

- Deepening understanding of syllabus / criteria, effective structuring of answers

- Creative study skills (incorporating mind-mapping, visual stimuli, games)

- Coping mechanisms for exam stress incorporating mindfulness, breathing techniques and embodiment exercises

- Tips for effective time management

In terms of subject-specificity, I am able to cover French, Spanish, Music, History & Sociology. However, sessions with me will focus more on the *application* of subject matter by really breaking down the exam criteria and finding out exactly what will constitute a good response.

About me:

I mind-mapped my way to full marks at A-level in two out of my four subjects, before accepting an offer to study Music at the University of Oxford on a double scholarship. Upon graduation I completed a full traineeship at a prestigious media agency before taking a sabbatical and re-training as a yoga & mindfulness teacher with a specialism in teaching children. I now spend my time teaching a combination of children, adult and teen classes, along with a number of private students who come to me for tutoring, coaching and exam/audition prep.

I've been working with children and young people in a variety of disciplines for the last ten years, including as a tutor, piano teacher, ensemble and audition coach.

    • Hi SpringTime, I completely understand the concern for protecting birds, but using bells on cats is a bit more complicated. While they may reduce hunting success, they're not always effective & can cause stress for some cats, who are highly sensitive to sound. A better solution is to ensure cats are kept indoors during peak bird activity & providing plenty of enrichment at home to satisfy their hunting instincts. There's a terrible misconception that cats do not require as much mental & physical enrichment as dogs do. But they do, if not more so.
    • But we can train them to kill the foreign invaders, green sqwaky things, and the rats with feathers
    • Hi Nigello, Many spayed/neutered & microchipped cats actually don't wear collars, as they often go missing & can pose risks.  Microchipping is far more reliable for reuniting lost cats with their guardians. Some of our clients even keep sacks of collars on standby because their cats frequently return without them - a comical but telling example of how impractical collars can be. A major contributor to unspayed/unneutered cats & kittens is purchasing from breeders, where these measures are often overlooked. Adopting from shelters, on the other hand, ensures all precautionary steps - like spaying/neutering, microchipping, as well as vaccinations - are already in place.
