Rocks Off - The Rolling Stones

I hear you talking when I'm on the street,

Your mouth don't move but I can hear you speak.

What's the matter with the boy?

He don't come around no more,

Is he checking out for sure?

Is he gonna close the door on me?

And I'm always hearing voices on the street,

I want to shout, but I can't hardly speak.

I was making love last night

To a dancer friend of mine.

I can't seem to stay in step,

'Cause she come ev'ry time that she pirouettes over me.

And I only get my rocks off while I'm dreaming,

I only get my rocks off while I'm sleeping.

I'm zipping through the days at lightning speed.

Plug in, flush out and fire the fuckin' feed.

Heading for the overload,

Splattered on the dusty road,

Kick me like you've kicked before,

I can't even feel the pain no more.

But I only get my rocks off while I'm dreaming,

I only get my rocks off while I'm sleeping.

Feel so hypnotized, can't describe the scene.

Feel so mesmerized all that inside me.

The sunshine bores the daylights out of me.

Chasing shadows moonlight mystery.

Headed for the overload,

Splattered on the dirty road,

Kick me like you've kicked before,

I can't even feel the pain no more.

But I only get my rocks off while I'm dreaming,

I only get my rocks off while I'm sleeping.

Taking a leaf out of Jah's book here, this is a wonderfully crafted, beautifully worded song.

artist: Paul Simon lyrics

title: Rene And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War

album: Hearts And Bones

(Paul Simon)

Rene and Georgette Magritte

With their dog after the war

Returned to their hotelsuite

And they unlocked the door

Easily losing their evening clothes

They dance by the light of the moon

To The Penguins

The Moonglows

The Orioles

and The Five Satins

The deep forbidden music

They'd been longing for

Rene and Georgette Magritte

With their dog after the war

Rene and Georgette Magritte

With their dog after the war

Were strolling down Christopher Street

When they stopped in a men's store

With all of the mannequins

Dressed in the style

That brought tears to their

Immigrant eyes

Just like The Penguins

The Moonglows

The Orioles

and The Five Satins

The easy stream of laughter

Flowing through the air

Rene and Georgette Magritte

With their dog apres la guerre

Side by side

They fell asleep

Decades gliding by like Indians

Time is cheap

When they wake up they will find

All their personal belongings

Have intertwined

Rene and Georgette Magritte

With their dog after the war

Were dining with the power elite

And they looked in their bedroom drawer

And what do you think

They have hidden away

In the cabinet cold of their hearts?

The Penguins

The Moonglows

The Orioles

and The Five Satins

For now and ever after

As it was before

Rene and Georgette Magritte With their dog

After the war

Woke up one morning half asleep with all my blankets in a heap.

I can't go for that, no can do

as I stumbled through last night?s drunken debris

under the moon of love

and yellow roses scattered all around

and I thought to myself

what a wonderful world.

I'm a little pea

where there's music and there's people who are young and alive.

She's a rich girl, she don't try to hide it, she's got diamonds on the soles of her shoes. He's a poor boy empty as a pocket with nothing to lose.

It's your life, and you can do what you want, do what you like, but please don't keep me waiting,

I'm feeling supersonic, give me gin and tonic

And it stoned me to my soul

    • There used to be a flock of long tailed tits in the area up East Dulwich Grove past the health centre (going from ED) . No idea if they are still around there. Herons in Peckham Rye Park near the pond (and various ducks and geese) . I agree Merlin is a great app, better than other bird identification apps I have tried . You could join the RSPB? They have a good and informative quarterly magazine.  If you have a garden or a balcony, deffo put out feeders if you can. Different kinds of  feeders and food suit different birds. Vine House Farm is a great source of bird food (and feeders),  particularly if you have space to store it (guarded from mice!) in bulk. Good quality,  and speedy free delivery with no minimum order requirement. I don't have any connection with them, in case I sound like an ad! https://www.vinehousefarm.co.uk/
    • Indeed. But from ED, you can more easily get to Sydenham Woods from Cox's Walk (unless you have mobility problems, as it's a fairly long steepish walk from the road to that entrance). And unfortunately (given its excellent position very near one of the entrances to  the woods, where you can also easily  park)  The Wood House is a sad apology for a pub, with AstroTurf and plastic shrubs in the "garden" 😭 I always liked  Crystal Palace, even before it became gentrified. It   used to be considered so down market it took to calling itself Upper Norwood, with the emphasis on the "Upper", in a bid to improve its image. Or maybe that was just the estate agents.   How things change.
    • The Sydenham Hill cycle lanes are a very visual reminder of the nonsense of the council policy regarding cycle infrastructure. A massive white elephant if there ever was one. Very much a case of: if you build it sometimes they won't come. An utter waste of tax-payers money - one does wonder how much it cost.
    • There are good phone apps (such as Merlin) which will help identify bird song
