Hello forumites

I am fast becoming a sling addict (I have a 3 month old and so far I have got through a close sling, a baby bjorn and now am using the fab beco gemini) and am looking for a bit of advice. The Yaklet is 98th centile for height and loves being in the sling but his feet bash constantly against my thighs - particularly if I'm walking up or down hills or stairs. Is this just something that he and I will have to live with? The beco gemini has the "wide" seat option but I don't think he's quite ready for that.

As well as his loooong legs, he's also long in the torso, so much so that quite a lot of his back is unsupported when facing inwards in the beco. He braces himself against me, frequently with his arms in front of his body, while arching his back to get a good look round. (I hope that makes sense!) I'm not a worrying type but occasionally I do catch myself wondering if he could launch himself out when he's bracing like that. In my rational moments I'm sure not, but any reassurance, hints or tips would be great. I don't want to put the hood up all the time because he's so nosey!

Thank you oh wise sling experts

You can put the baby on your back as long as his head supported and not still wobbly. Solves the problem of them arching backwards. I put both mine on my back at 3 months and it's so much easier. Should stop the legs bashing thighs problem too. The best position for the baby to be in is with his knees above his hips and bottom sunk down in a 'seat' and his back rounded. This should also mean that his legs aren't dangling as they are straddled. The better slings put the baby in this position automatically. I would try out a sling meet, as they are quite active in this area and you can try out lots of types before buying and get plenty of advice.

Personally I like wrap slings for little ones and their position is super comfy and there is no way they can fall out...unless they're not wrapped correctly or course. Bit of a learning curve with them, but they fit all shapes and sizes perfectly.

HOpe I'm making sense - in a bit of a rush. Lots of into on You Tube about slings too.

    • I’ve been looking at their website from time to time over the last few years and I was sure that at least one loaf - the signature sourdough - is supplied by the BreadBread bakery who are at a lot of markets at weekends and who used to have a small cafe bakery shop in Brixton Market. I used to go there specifically to get their bread.   They are also affiliated with Franco Manca.  That was the first FM, co-founded by Bridget Hugo, who died last year. BreadBread also supplied the bread for the now closed Crooked Well pub restaurant (but now open under a different name - The Kerfield Arms)  in Grove Lane SE5.  Not sure where the pastries come from but it doesn’t seem possible to choose which ones to have delivered.  I do think they chop and change the suppliers from time to time.  I like the look of the (expensive) crullers they sometimes have plus granola, the savoury pastries and expensive bagels.  They frequently have special offers for a first delivery.  40% is the highest discount I’ve seen so far. I too would be worried about a fox being an opportunist.
    • Yes, they sound excellent.
    • Maybe the signor in question spotted some hot jacuzzi action and just had to stop in?
