WARNING - Frank Gutter Services Con Men & Vandalism

Franks gutter services are posting flyers through doors in the Peckham Rye and East Dulwich area. The small flyer advertises that they are doing work locally to clean gutters starting from ?40. However DO NOT use this man/company. Not only did they not turn up to initial appointments but upon cleaning our gutters (2 men - one Frank), thinking I was not in, then proceeded to break our roof tiles (when I was standing beneath the area they were damaging) and send pictures to my husband saying we needed them fixing, which they would be happy to do. They are con men who are looking for a fast buck even if it means vandalising your property to create work. I've since reported them to trading standards and filed a crime report. The damage has left us with a leaking ceiling in our bedroom and costly repairs to fix the roof and redecorate the bedroom.

Please send out the message and bin any flyers that reference Franks gutters and the following number: 07447497613

Yep. The same thing happened to us. I'm not sure whether it was Frank but some guys said they were going to replace a gutter and basically wrecked the whole guttering support system and some slates. I got rid of them but they came back the next day offering to finish the job. I considered the use of a blunt instrument but in reality simply told them they were a load of bastards and that my son works for the fraud squad (he doesn't).

They didn't seem to mind. I think being sworn and yelled at is just a normal day for them.

It cost us ?450 to repair the damage they did.

I had a similar experience in my old address. I had a couple of missing tiles on roof, used company from local directory. when they came they mentioned some pointing on my roof looked like it needed fixing, I said I had no money to do any extra work-a few days later during a storm I had water running down the inside of my walls-stupidly (I know,I know..I was going through a separation at the time and not thinking clearly in many ways..) I then called the original roofers to fix it-taking a loan to give them the ?600 they wanted in cash for the job.

afterwards I twigged that they must have done the damage as that had never happened before.

I know I was stupid but hindsight is something else entirely and I panicked and just wanted it fixed.

there are some evil so and so's out there

    • I agree that someone somewhere must at one point decided on their purpose, however if anything was ever written down it is probably long lost, given the turnover of councillors and council staff . The Crofton Park noticeboards I mentioned above are solely for information about the council  and various community groups and activities, plus  various community related things such as the library times and services.  I think they are very bright, interesting and inviting, however I am not going back there solely in order to take a photo The ones in East Dulwich don't have much on them because ... well, for the reasons on this thread 🤣 Quite apart from the fact that these are supposed to be community notice boards, there are all sorts of reasons why they should not be used for private businesses to advertise, as I and others have already said. Yes there have been huge changes in the area, but I can't see how those changes affect the purpose of community noticeboards, unless you think that the changes mean that there is no longer a "community" in East Dulwich. Which would be very sad indeed. Anyway, I am stepping away from this thread now, I have other things to do 🙄
    • From experience, it's the norm that the local authority reject appeals regardless of facts. Suggest you appeal and highlight that you followed the requirements by using the app to log the parking session and the failure of the app / network to register this is a technical issue beyond your control for which you can not be held responsible for and accordingly not penalised. Also that the traffic wardens records confirm you were parked for less than the free period so again should not be penalised. Do a search on web for similar appeals The 'fight back forum' website used to be very good for people sharing there appeals experience; and looks like this is no longer running but try https://www.ftla.uk I've appealed loads of Penalty Charge Notices for myself, friends and family and all been successful. In approx half of the appeals the local authority did not even respond and were won by default.  Re 20p fee - check if you you have text message alert 'on' as these are generally charged for and if so turn it off to save text fee. Hope this helps For Clarity, you need to follow the process, so have to first appeal to the local authority that issued the PCN (sounds like you've done this).  Then you can appeal to the London Tribunals and the local authority have to tell you this and tell you your reference number to submit this appeal.
    • I’ve read the thread, but no one on the thread has authority over the noticeboards. There must be something written somewhere spelling out the purpose of them;  if they’re not serving that purpose maybe the purpose should change.  I’m interested, not because I have a business which I wish to advertise, but because I’ve seen noticeboards elsewhere that have a richer more reflective feel maybe a bit like a physical manifestation of the What’s on on section of this forum but more
    • There has already been pages of discussion about this. Please read the whole thread if you haven't already. These are community notice boards and not for the use of  local commercial businesses. I need this to be quite clear before I spend  time on it, because if they are to be used for commercial purposes then I am not willing to be involved at all, and shan't be speaking to Monica
