..in Camelot castle, Tintagel, Cornwall. They say it used to be owned by King Arthur, purchased 3 years ago by 2 artists and turned into a hotel and artist haven. They say they have a life changing light box, has anyone else witnessed it or experienced it or is it a cult? Did you dare venture below ground?

I was referring to the thread's title question (in my usual verbose manner) ;-)

OOOooo

Sounds like a right load of cark. Don't tell me you've bought/acquired one.

>THE MESSAGE IS CLEAR: STOP TRYING TO PRESSURE GUESTS INTO BUYING YOUR AWFUL PAINTINGS, TED.

Scientologist (and Camelot Castle Hotel?s ?artist-in-residence?) Ted Stourton routinely takes guests to the basement of the hotel to see the incessantly-hyped ?Light Box? attraction. Apparently, this consists of a box with some lights in it that he uses to..ah, shine a light through some of his paintings. According to John Mappin and Ted Stourton, this attraction is nothing short of a miracle. Judging by their hype, it?s literally magical.

To most unsuspecting guests and visitors, it?s little more than a hard-sell of some awful paintings.

Here, Ted and John, is a quick selection of what your paying guests think of your ?Light Box? (and these all came from 2* reviews):

?On our second night, we went to visit the Light Box as we were intrigued about it (You are told about it on arrival), It is pleasant but if you give in to pressure easily please do not go. Lets just say my husband came away with a larger painting than he had originally intended to buy.?

?I left his dungeon, sorry, studios, very confused and aplogetic to my partner (the latter was laughing). Ted ? then took us to see the ?lightbox?. I think we were doing okay til then. He still seemed interested in us. In answer to the question posted all around the hotel. ?Yes! We have seen the lightbox??3 halogen bulbs shining onto one of Ted?s pictures. The most beautiful thing in Cornwall? Have I mentioned megalomania?

We lost his interest then, My partner was more interested in whether they were halogen bulbs or another kind. I asked what medium he had used in his paintings: oil, watercolour or emulsion (emulsion, by the way) We were only shown 2 pictures (of a series of at least 10) before being escorted out without a goodbye? We found out later, from fellow guests, that we were supposed to buy a picture of his.?<

Owned by Scientologists yes and Panorama did a piece on the place. Letters on the wall thanking the hotel owners for their life changing help, pages and pages of photos of happy clappy punters having seen 'the light box'. Interesting that the wonderful looking ruins have not been excavated though. I wandered through the grounds and found an old sword poking out of a rock, i gently pulled it out and shall be bringing it to ED kk..;-)

    • There’s a couple of Gov petitions going on in relation to fireworks at the moment but this one is for banning them entirely except organised displays if anyone wants to sign. This is the only sensible way forward in my view. No one should be able to let them off in gardens or anywhere like that, it’s crazy. I am surprised some of you have said it hasn’t been as bad this year. I live near DKH Saino and it’s been absolutely terrible my way for days. This petition gained about 20,000 just in the last day or so so clearly the appetite is there! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/732559
    • I'd have thought they could use some of  their income from hiring out a large part of Brockwell Park in the summer (therefore, as I understand it, preventing local residents from using much of it) to put on a firework display there  in the autumn which might somewhat make up to those residents for the previous loss of use of the park. And also generate goodwill.

Care to share with the rest of us where  your particular interest in libraries comes from? Do you work in one of them?
