Help my baby smells of cheese

Do any domestic goddesses out there have any tips for cleaning plastic baby bibs. We've got the sort that let you put their arms in made of thin plastic with a clear pocket at front (from jojo mama) - i clean them after every meal and hang to dry but no matter what i do they stink after about 2-3 weeks. Feels too wasteful to throw them out and replace as they are otherwise fine. Apparently you can't put in washing machine (or so it says on packet) but i wondered if anyone knew a way to clean them so they arent so revolting!?

You're not supposed to wash them? I have but admittedly the pattern did start coming off. I find the towelling versions mothercare and John Lewis do much better - wash well and don't leak at all.

Yes towelling bibs & then put a rubber pelican bib over the top to catch the worst!

We had a bib that wasn't machine washable. I put it in the wash anyway. The colour faded some and the plastic laminated surface came away from the coloured backing in places. Can't remember what I did with it afte that. I think we've kept it but don't use it often... Maybe instead of machine washing, you could dip the bib in sterilizer solution for a few seconds?

ikea do great ones that are machine washable - waterproof with a big pocket. very cheap too (about ?3 for 2 i think! last forever)

could you use febreze on your ones to get rid of the smell?

We had this problem too, tried soaking but didn't make much difference. Like others l prefer cloth bibs with plastic backs as you can put them in the machine. JL are best the Sainsburys ones fell apart.

Ha Moos, I thought so too! I vividly remember finding a third under-chin complete with cheesy offering. Just thinking about it makes me feel a bit sick.

I always washed the ones from JJMB, the pattern does come off and they do shrink eventually but we got loads of use out of them despite this. I have a bizarre hatred of towelling hence sticking with the plasticky kind!
