Hi Freddy1929 - Yes, very good theory about Burgess Park.

We really had a bumper start today - nearly two hours of a solid wall of sound from 6.00am onwards and I'm sure it won't stop until about 10.45 tonight.

Funny how a private company, that is there to make money, seems to have the right to inflict noise pollution on thousands on Londoners and get away with it. What does Southwark do about it? Do you think that I would get away with taking the silencer off my car exhaust and driving around Willy Walsh's house every two minutes, starting at dawn? Mind you it does start before dawn too; I remember being woken up by the sound of a Jumbo Jet at around 5.00am in February this year. Why don't they wake up passengers on those long-haul flights with the sound of jet engines, just like we have to put up with.

Oh, and by the way, before anyone says; "Why not move", A; it costs money, B; this is my family home for 31 years and, when I first moved here I go woken up by blackbirds singing - Virgin Atlantic, etc were'nt around and certainly no planes low flying like they are now.

Maybe we'll all run out of fuel soon and go by bike like Boris - Ha Ha Ha

Lol re. Burgess Park.

As usual we talk ourslves into believing things that aren't quite true. This red line is the number of flights per year at Heathrow:

The change over the last decade is too small to be noticeable.

There will be a big uplift around the Olympics (maybe 10%?) but even that is probably too small to notice using our own subjective experience.

Aircraft movements at London City Airport are only 15% of Heathrow, with much smaller quieter planes, so this couldn't account for it.

I'm afraid it's probably just a case of 'good old days' syndrome.

Freddy, this friend of yours who was round yesterday, sounds like you two were having a bit of a mad one with your clipboards, infra-red measuring devices and stop watches.. Jealous...!

As for Burgess Park being turned into an international airport, what a brilliant idea. Burgess International (BGS). 'twill be very handy for those European mini-breaks.

Nevermind the noise from planes, I've recently moved to the area and the thought that the most interesting thing to do for 2 hours is time the buggers is seriously troubling.

Huguenot,

Many thanks for the graph (I notice that they have spent passengers wrong) - it DOES prove my point.

Flights to Heathrow have gone up by over 100,000/annum since I moved here in 1980, that's not including figures for 1980-85.

No wonder they're driving me nuts!

    • Here to add my voice to those praising Temi. She just painted my dilapidated home office in ED and did a fantastic job in just two days in a much lighter colour, including woodwork, damp blocker and filling holes. She's efficient, on time and I barely heard a peep out of her; she just got on with the job. I recommend her wholeheartedly.
    • The residents & families of the estate are getting parking fines,  out of the blue , the residents parking system waa changed from Southern to Sippi with cameras put up in the car park and people issued with fines entering the estate for more then 10 minutes , families can no longer pick up or drop off family due to a new 10 minute wait fine. Residents are appealing with Sippi and Southern as there was no letters to consult of a parking change,  new waiting times or fines, delivery drivers are getting fines everyday,  if you get a fine,  appeal it, there is no signage up to say about parking fines or waiting time
