whether the employer or nanny pays for the business car insurance when she is using her own car. The car is normally fully comp but she has taken out the extra business insurance you need when transporting children in this role?

If I use my car for work, I am expected by my employer to pay for any additional insurance but I can claim mileage

This may or not be taxable depending on the rate payable

I don't know for certain but since a nanny is an employee not a service provider I'd have thought the employer would be liable for any business expenses. Presumably she wouldn't need the extra insurance for herself? You might want to check with one of the nanny payroll agencies, I'm sure they'd know. Good luck sorting it out.
