So, no listening, no engagement with constituents, just one-way uncritical message broadcasting.

Come on, we want an MP, not a parrot. Please engage brain and backbone, and show some leadership.

Seriously, I'm really pleased that our MP is participating in this form, even if through the intermediary of her office. But please participate sincerely. People have made serious and hopefully constructive suggestions here about how to head off further unrest. What does our MP think of them?

Please don't use the forum as a place to cock a leg, spray someone else's wee, and then disappear again. That's disrespectful.

David,

Perhaps you should re-read Tessa's original post. It is in three parts:

First, her view of the situation as it stood earlier today and a short description of actions she has been taking and will continue to take over the next few days.

Second, and clearly described as such, is the advice that the police have asked to be passed on.

Third, a suggested point of help and support for those who own or work in local shops who may have been affected by recent events.

The first post was direct from Tessa and is marked accordingly. The later clarifications are via her office and are so described.

Tessa Jowell (Office)

OK, well this dialogue seems to be heading nowhere, so perhaps we should just move on.

I've posted twice trying to get a view of what our MP thinks of the suggestions made by several people on this thread, which Tessa's original post in this thread ignores (however much I re-read it).

Doesn't look like I'm going to find out. Shame, but consider me successfully stonewalled.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
    • That was one that the BBC seem to have lost track of.  But they do still have quite a few. These are some in their 60s archive. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0028zp6
