They certainly did, as did Manchester United. They were held for long periods of the game by the resolute Romanians. The clash is nicely poised between the blue and red sections of Manchester this coming weekend.

Atticus, highly controversial subject. Basically, the club WANTS singing/chants (friendly ones obviously) however if you dare stand up you get ejected. How can you sing with joy sat down? (Not that we've had much joyous singing until recently and even then it's a bit nervous !)

Good wins for Chelsea and Arsenal this evening, and both top their groups. I hope you're not a betting man red devil.

Really ?

McNamara's Band (note correct spelling) is also the club song for Tottenham Hotspur F.C. a Premier League Football Club in North London. The connection to the club may be that the song was written in Barnet, also North London and not far from the Spurs Ground. Spurs is the well known nickname for Tottenham Hotspur. The song was adopted by Spurs long before popular legend has adoption after Northern Irish international Danny Blanchflower joined the club in 1954. Whilst the song was used at this time and underwent something of a revival during the Glory Glory years of the early 1960s, its use at White Hart Lane predates either. The song is still played to this very day as the players return to the pitch after half time at White Hart Lane.

    • Yep Monday is family festival but I think it would be churlish to avoid this on principle and if you are free at least check it out.  I was simply responding to a comment that there were not free festivals.  I've no strong feelings about Gala, and whilst I could hear it, it stopped around 11 and I've experienced worse.  Volunteering at Glastonbury and at Shambala and that bloody drum and base going on till 4 in the morning.  I'm aware Gala affects others far more but conflating this with LTNs and with Lambeth council was strange.
    • Last night was a different kind of event entirely though...
    • We can all be cynical but I hope you or others will pop over to the free festival and share your views.  I'd go but I am away.  It looks great.  (Note I don't know why some had to post their disgust on the events page - I expect many locals will go to the free event and some to the Gala itself).
