To paraphrase - "If you're good enough you're (old)experienced enough". Also he's played more U-21 games than Campbell or Cleverly and has faced good enough top players not to be fazed/scared by the Dutch.

I think Pearce wants him in the U-21s because he is still their manager and really wants a victory in their next game against Belgium (as this is what he feels he will be judged on).

I'm not what Pearce's logic is. If he's good enough he's old enough surely. How many of the squad are going to play just a bit part during the 90 minutes? Quite a few I'd imagine. Exposing OC to the national team environment would be a good thing even if he didn't play at all. From what previous internationls have written, it takes time to get used to it. So the sooner he starts the sooner he will make an impact. Maybe he is thinking, look what happened to Walcott. He hasn't really progressed as much as expected. Incorrect though to assume that the same thing would apply to OC.

No doubt Rooney is a class act. But he has a tendency to play deep than to lead the attack. If Rooney isn't on form then England struggle to get the goals. Fraizer Campbell, on the hand, is a player with all-round abilities.

Shearer and Sheringham were a good 'double act'.

Rooney and Welbeck, although different players to SAS, could work for England too as they have plenty of time to cement their partnership/understanding at Utd.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Wilshire and Cleverly get on, once they are both off the treatment table...

This might sound scary for RD but there may be a time when the England midfielders comprises entirely of Arsenal youngsters. With Lansbury/Frimpong and Wilshire in central areas and O-C and Walcott on the flanks. Apparently, Lansbury has been playing well for West Ham on loan.

Actually it wouldn't bother me, especially if it meant England became a team of world beaters.

I think out of those five only the Ox and Wilshire look the biz at the moment.

L'Arse's problem is holding onto their decent players, and failure to get into the top four will exacerbate this...

McEachran & Wilshire are my real preferences for the central midfield positions.

Walcott lacks a football brain but his pace will always give defenders something to think about. He gets the nod over Lennon purely because of his ability for scoring goals for England. However, I do wonder if Theo's days are numbered at Arsenal with emergence of Ryo Miyaichi, currently on loan to Bolton.

Looks like Walcott heard all that stuff about how Wenger could have signed Bale but went for him instead - if only he did this kind of thing consistently he'd get the England nod without question.
