Sam? Oi, Sam!

"What?"

You do know Demel is fucking useless?

"He's a big lad"

Yeah but he's fucking useless Sam!

"He's a big strong lad"

But Sam he spent the whole game hiding behind Arsenal players and dodging the ball! He plays like an elbow.

"I like him"

And Sam?

"What now?"

About Vaz Te, I know he was okay in the Championship but he's become a fucking embarrassment!

"He's a foreign lad. They're good"

But Sam tonight he was like Bambi on fucking Ice!

"Portuguese - that's nearly Spanish"

He kept falling over.

"I like him"

A freezing nightmare. First half Arsenal were shit - I mean really poor. Second half they decided to play and we were shafted. No plan B, no imagination, no pace, no grit, no fuck all. Big Sam's football revolution goes tits up big style. Then the agony of watching little Danny Potts lying motionless on the turf for 10 minutes.

The one plus? I understand why there's no atmosphere at The Emirates - because Arsenal fans don't start chanting until they're 3-up. And when they've scored 4 they really let themselves go, you could actually hear them in surrounding streets I'm sure! Five was too many and they went back to their iphones.

Bollocks. It's been a bad night. Sometimes I really hate football.

We always have Di Canio's 'column' to cheer us up with stuff like

"Before Christmas, I also went to Stonehenge for the winter solstice. Swindon had just beaten Tranmere 5-0 and I waited until 4am before going there to see the sunrise. It was raining and I didn't see anything, so I left and went straight to training."

who can resist?

Not sure what game you were watching but thats how I would have described West Hams (non) perfomance. Hope Potts is well. As for the fat walrus saying Wenger has sold him short, thats my view of the way he managed the biggest club he ever was given charge of, namely Newcastle United.

Wot Maxxi said with effing bells on. BFS was saved by the Potts injury as no-one asked him about his team selection, which was ridiculous. You can't go to The Emirates and pick a second string team, no Diame, J Cole, Jarvis,Diarra etc. The only legit absence was Collins.

I wouldn't mind but we're not even playing this weekend. I want my ?60 and dignity back.

Worse things about it was - (I was sat in a gooner section and yes I sat on my hands when we went one up) - all the Arsenal fans around me were moaning about how the first half was often like this and how badly they were playing and how a better team would be two or three up by half time. That really bites - that we could have had a real go. I could just about deal with his giving up for the Man U visit but not this. The fact that it took them nearly 45 minutes to realise there was no Irons threat at all and we were there for the taking if they just stepped it up - we looked like a joke in those 10-12 minutes.

He's been doing that for years, that's why he's so disliked. On a different note, it's interesting that Alan Pardew was very scathing about the influence and inclusion of French players in the Arsenal side in 2006. Strange how things change eh Al?

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
