Was just pointing out that very few games end @ 90 minutes.

Wish I'd been there.

English football stronger - depends on the era, look back a bit further.

My favourite visit to Parkhead was back in '88 when they won the league in their centenary year, so there was a real party atmosphere. Celtic were playing Dundee, who only brought a couple of hundred fans with them. Despite their small numbers, with segregation there were large gaps of empty terracing, meaning the official capacity that day was supposed to be only around 50,000+. But with thousands more Celtic fans outside wanting to get in, the police eventually told the Dundee fans that they had to leave for safety concerns. After jeering them as they left, the away end soon filled up with Celtic fans. The official attendance for that game was given as the ground capacity of 60,800, but there must have been about 70-75,000 in the ground by kick-off time, total sardine time but a fantastic atmosphere. You can spot me in the video, I'm the one not singing YNWA... ;-)

I've got 'wall down for a draw, and I think they will win the replay, is that enough to get me a snog around the back of the bike sheds?..

Thanks for clearing that up Mick. I suspected you were a Latin scholar!

Lennon writing to UEFA to get clarification?!!! Oh wow - has he ever lost a game without complaining in one way or another?

He must have forgotten the very, very dodgy penalty awarded to Samaras that got them into the last 16.

Ah the highs and lows of my short time in Glasgow.

I also went to Scotland vs Belgium in a European Championship qualifier late '83 after Scotland had already been knocked out.

12,000 attendance on a bitterly cold night. In a previous era Hampden had had 140,000 plus. Now one side of the ground and one end closed due to safety reasons (it was falling down). I remember the press area came out of the roof of a stand. Weird stuff. And I think the urinals were outside against a wall or perhaps that was a story from somebody else.

There was secretarian self segregation with the DoBs in one set of terracing and the Fenians in the other. Both terms of endearment from people I met at Strathclyde Uni. someone else can explain.

    • This is simply untrue. The area is not 2/3 storeys maximum. Hambledon Court is on the other side of tracks from the Jewson site on Burrow Rd, is 8 storeys, and is barely known (let alone bothersome) to most people in East Dulwich. Felbridge House, Petworth House etc on the opposite side of the station from the new development are all 5 storeys tall. East Dulwich Charter (which neighbours the new development) is itself 4-5 storeys (depending on which block you're talking about). What's more, Hambledon Court was finished in about 1978 iirc and no-one has built anything similar around here since then - so the "slippery slope" "genie in the bottle" argument doesn't work either. You can't simultaneously argue that Southwark is too slow in approving new construction but also suggest this will lead to a flood of new high-rise housing! At current rates of approval, we can expect our next 8 storey building to arrive in...2072!
    • I checked - the Hanway Street place was Mandeer - it moved to New Oxford Street I think and was replaced by Hakkasan - very different prices.
    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
