uncleglen
Not surprising. Some people won't be happy until the entire country is concreted over- you've only got to look around the front 'gardens' in ED....I can see the practical reasons for managing trees near the railway lines though- whether they are being 'managed' properly is another matter.. flocker spotter
There is no shortage of tree cover in this country, the concern is that they are doing in on such a mammoth scale at such a critical time for the local ecosystem Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/190241-trees/#findComment-1241848 Share on other sites

JohnL
Yet three years ago at least (probably still) London could be classified as a forest.https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/dec/07/london-forest-i-tree-study Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/190241-trees/#findComment-1245299 Share on other sites
BrandNewGuy
Well in that case, whatever that "UN definition" of a forest is, it's silly. A cursory Google doesn't give any detail. flocker spotter
not a useful comparison of anything apart from how larger, less densely populated countries likely to have more trees Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/190241-trees/#findComment-1245333 Share on other sites
heartblock
There are other ways to manage trees and leaf-fall. Coppicing for example. Chopping mature trees down is the cheaper option rather than the yearly management of trees. The trees and shrubs on rail sidings act as a wide life corridor in towns and cities.
