The i?pod sits proud in its docking station. The faux-flock cover of puce floral now showing scratches, signs of slight age and complete obsolescence. As a fleeting moment of self-consciousness floats though his insipid doom he wonders if it should still be on display or if it?s day had passed like that of the ?trophy home in this irresistible area full of bars, boutiques and boho hangouts? (sic) which the brochure had promised.

He allows his mind to venture back.

An oversized mirror hangs over the saloon bar of the EDT reflecting their faces as they sat there that first night those years ago, the smell of cardboard and bubble wrap still in their nostrils and the headiness of self-affirmation and pinot in their laughter.

The faces contort to the grotesque and the laughter turns to mockery as he is wrenched back into reality but immediately recoils in desperate fear, preferring scathing memory to cold reality.

He is not sure how much time has passed when he becomes vaguely aware of the chill growing through his feet up from the laminate floor and the drone of a folk anthem beating its way through the house.

He withdraws further.

    • Dog kennel isn't a great name for a school. I agree that it's ridiculous for the name to put anyone off going there, but don't see any issue with them rebranding if the parents and children prefer a new name. The school is surrounded by historical 'groves' (reflected in the names of Camberwell Grove, Grove park and Grove Vale for example), so it's not a totally random name.
    • It might help if there are body cams to record evidence and a presence maybe a deterrent but I very much doubt a park warden would intervene with obnoxious and violent thugs - children or not. We need police for that.
    • I had a leaky toilet cistern and Niko came out the same day and not only fixed the leak but thoroughly cleaned off the years of calcium build-up. His attention to detail was matched by his kind humanity. The result was a completely renovated toilet which has never worked more efficiently as well as 'service with a smile'. MANY THANKS NIKO!!!
    • I am trying to find out about people's experiences of the 4+ and 7+ assessments. I am a teacher and have a wealth of experience tutoring for theses assessments (including my own son), but it's always good to keep on top of things as they always make tweaks to them. TIA!
