"In March this year a male taken from Yorkshire and a female from Scotland were released into Forty Hall Farm, Enfield.

"It was hoped the pair [of beavers] would mate, but on Friday the male was found dead. ... confirmed ... natural causes" https://uk.news.yahoo.com/beavers-saved-extinction-dead-essex-park-124505905.html

Olivia Newton John, only 73

Whilst her passing is sad on a level that touches those who remember her fondly, I can't help thinking of all the unnamed victims of cancer who died yesterday and that their passing won't be remembered by the world's media.

You could say that about a lot of this list, not really the point

Spartacus, do you think about all the unnamed victims of cancer who died, on the days when no one well known has died from cancer?...

Anytime someone famous dies and the media goes to town, I think about all the other deaths that occur where there won't be any major recognition.

Like birth and taxes, death is a given occurance and an occupational hazard of life and the fact that everyone morns someone who the saw once in a film or on telly or in the paper just makes me think how voyaristic we are as a species especially as only a very few of those deaths impact us as individuals beyond uttering "I liked him/her in ..."

Think what you will but be honest, how does famous people falling off their perch really impact you unless you knew them personally and last saw them in the dirty duck over a pint ?

You don't have to know someone personally for their death to have some kind of impact.

The footballer who was a little boy's childhood hero.

The singer who's song was playing in the background when someone had their first kiss.

Do you need to know an author personally to be affected by a book they've written?

Do you need to know an artist personally to be affected by one of their paintings?

And so on.

People we don't know personally can be a part of our lives and affect who we are, so why would anyone not want to remember them?

I suspect part of that remembering is a mourning for their own past childhood/adulthood memories rather than the person per se...

    • So your remedy for anyone harming an animal, amongst which I assume you include at least all insects, is, well, to kill an animal. Good and logical call. Hyperbole only gets you so far, you know.
    • Hello, just wondered if you found anything? I'm also looking for a studio space, perhaps sharing.
    • From what I have gathered from Bradbury Oak residents  I have spoken with, that at a meeting with RNIB earlier in the year, none of the residents were in favour of new build. There is the implication that rent rises are anticipated to help towards building costs. Rent is currently in the region of £300 pw - as with most sheltered housing (council and Housing Association), Since these rents also include maintenance charges, utility charges - Housing Benefit is only applicable to the actual 'rent element' per flat.
    • At the Dulwich Hill SNT meeting last night we spoke about Met. Engage. Dulwich Hill had signed up 185 households. Scheme  had been trialled in other parts of the country successfully and now the Met. Police are rolling it out, To the end of August, the Met Police had gathered 17,000 registrations which equites to 2% of households.
