That's a shame.

I first saw his name on the sleeve notes to more contemporary stuff in the mid eighties like David Sylvian's first solo album and a couple of Talk Talk albums, then traced his work back to John Martyn and Nick Drake.

I feel like I owe him a pint for that.

Yes, he worked with Richard Thompson, as well.

Sadly you've missed your chance to buy him a pint ....

I never took to the Thompsons - maybe it was something to do with Richard's hats - but I still listen to 'Solid Air' and 'Five Leaves Left' fairly regularly.

It's incredible to see the volume and breadth of stuff he contributed to outside of 'folk-rock'. It'd make a pretty eclectic playlist.

Clearly a very talented bloke.

Did you ever get close to having him at one of your 'Goose' gigs?

Who? Danny Thompson or Richard Thompson?!

I don't think we could/could have afforded either of them! We only started the Goose in 2008.

Danny Thompson to the best of my knowledge (understandably given his instrument) only performed with other musicians, usually very well known.

It never occurred to us  to ask about Richard Thompson. I think we just assumed our venues would be  too small, even DHFC.

Danny Thompson, really, but I suppose it could apply to both of them.

Reading through his (partial) discography on Wiki, a couple of names came up that I recognised through the biographies you sometimes post about the artists at 'Goose' gigs.

I kind of hoped he may have turned up unannounced to help out a mate whose regular bass player had double booked. Or he just fancied a couple of pints and a night of folk. Something like that.

Ah, fair enough. Sadly no.

Jack Shepherd, actor (Wycliffe, etc).

From The Telegraph obituary:

"He was himself a proficient playwright. His first play, In Lambeth, was performed at the East Dulwich Tavern in 1989 and started a new career for him writing for the theatre."

I never knew that plays were staged at the EDT (upstairs, I presume?). I recall seeing a television adaptation of In Lambeth on the BBC years ago. Jack Shepherd was one of those actors who became a well known face for one TV role but actually had a long running and respected career in the theatre. RIP.

can't believe i'm the first one on this forum to say that Chris Rea has done his last drive home for Christmas.

He was on Mortimer and Woodhouse recently looking very unwell, poor chap, so its not the biggest surprise.

    • Hey, I am on the first floor and I am directly impacted if roof leaks. We got a roofing company to do repair work which was supposed to be guaranteed. However, when it started leaking again, we were informed that the guarantee is just for a new roof and not repair work. Each time the company that did the repair work came out again over the next few years, we had to pay additional amounts. The roof continues to leak, so I have just organised another company to fix the roof instead, as the guarantee doesn't mean anything.

    • I've been thinking about hosting a fun casino night and came across some interesting ideas. If anyone is looking for casino game hire, I found a great resource at mrpunter that seems to offer a variety of options. Renting a table or a complete set could really elevate the party atmosphere, and it sounds like a good way to add some excitement to gatherings. Plus, it’s nice to support local businesses while having a blast with friends! If anyone has more tips or experiences with this, I'd love to hear about them!
    • Danny re-tiled and generally cleaned up the roof tiles on our front bay in SE22 a few weeks ago. He was fairly priced, and although the scope of the work changed slightly (something we couldn't have foreseen before removing the existing tiles), the price remained the same for the job. He and a colleague worked hard for three days (one more than initially planned) through pretty grim weather. With anything unexpected, he came to me with solutions rather than problems. They were polite, courteous, and left the site as tidy as they could after cutting roof tiles in the driving rain!
