Hi there,

We are going to France travelling by motorhome this summer- so aiming to stay at a campsite near Bordeaux.

As it?s our first time in a motor home we want to take our time heading south. Does anyone have any recommendations of nice campsites in the north (between Calais and Caen) for us to stop in - on the way and on the way back? We are wanting to avoid travelling via Paris!

Many thanks!

Not sure if this would on your way but my in-laws live near Br?lon and there is a camping site by a lake near the town.

It's nothing fancy but seems family friendly. We've taken our goddaughter to play at the park and paddle around the lake.

There's a wonderful campsite in Calais National park- about 30 mins from the Eurotunnel in a beautiful location.

Chateau de Gandspette.

We've stayed there two years in a row and I am quite a fussy camper. It is gorgeous, lovely on site restaurant with great pizza and wine. No fuss. There is a lovely clean outdoor swimming pool.

There is a great campsite in a small village near Caen called Saint Aubin sur Mer.

The village itself has a lovely beach and its along the coast of the d-day beaches so you can even pack in a little sight seeing en route too!

Highly recommended.

In the meantime, thank you to our local teachers and other school workers, police community support officers and police officers. My commute happens to take me past a bunch of schools at dropoff/pickup times, and I noticed a much greater and more visible presence on streets outside/near schools than normal. Annoying as it must have been to be distracted from other important duties, I really value and appreciate them looking out for the kids. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/school-wars-trend-red-blue-london-police-latest-142328025.html https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/jan/01/birmingham-new-year-fireworks-display-centenary-square-police
