I tend to think that if a dog is running around without a lead, especially near children's play areas or near the duck pond then it must be friendly, other wise owners would surely be stricter about it bounding up to children etc?

For people who don't have gardens, and there are alot of us unfortunately, the park is pretty much the only place we can allow our kids to go wild and get some exercise, so although I agree that parents need to be very aware of their child's safety I don't think we should be encouraged to keep them under control at all times! It's good for them to have some freedom and fun.

It's up to both dog owners and parents to act responsibly with out blaming eachother.

The only subject I get really enraged about is dog poo, I've lost count of the time both my kids have got covered in it during the school run (nightmare, have to go home and get them changed!)or my little toddler has wiped it all over me when I pick him up, nice!

But what can you do? From what I can see it's the minority of dog owners who allow it any way.

Good suggestion about voluntary park wardens First Mate but we already have them, dog walkers, joggers, footballers, kids in the skate park etc.............. the eyes and ears of Peckham Rye Park!

I donned my voluntary warden's hat last Monday morning about 8am. When I saw a woman open the picnic area to let her staffie in to run around and relieve herself as she chatted on her mobile, I said to her, "you do know dogs aren't allowed in the picnic area?", she said, "I CAN READ!"

Oh. There you go then. Not much you can say to that!

I see Mark all the time - the last time I chatted to him was when a dog-owner was hurling abuse at him, and calling him a moron. Lovely. There's some odd people about....

while we are at it, on the north easterly bit of Peckham Rye today someone had dumped catering sized quanitites of spaghetti bolognese on the grass. Encourages rats and makes well behaved but inheritantly greedy dogs go and stuff their faces before recapture.

    • I’m currently conducting exploratory research into menstrual health education in UK secondary schools and would really value the insight of PSHE leads, Heads of Year, or pastoral staff.    The research aims to understand:   How the menstrual cycle is currently taught within the RSHE framework Where schools feel confident — and where there may be gaps Whether students are taught and  asking questions around the full menstrual cycle, symptoms, wellbeing and conditions such as PMS/PMDD or endometriosis How schools support students in feeling empowered to understand their bodies and seek help appropriately Whether education around nutrition, lifestyle, and menstrual wellbeing is currently addressed   The long-term goal is to explore whether there is a need for additional, age-appropriate, medically informed support on the menstrual cycle.  I’m not selling a programme and there is no obligation beyond a 30 minute informal chat online (Unpaid). All conversations will be confidential and used only to inform the research. If you work in a UK secondary school and would be willing to share your perspective, I would be extremely grateful to hear from you. Please comment below or email me [email protected] Thank you for the vital work you do. Best wishes, Emma
    • Nice topic and nice song!  1) Definitely top of Canonbie, looking North. 2) What used to be Francesca Cabrini school at the top of FHR. 3) Honor Oak playground, next to Camberwell New cemetery.
